Make sure you dont have any background tasks running. No virus scan
and no screen saver and if you have MS Office, turn off Find Fast in
control panel. If it still crashes in 3dfx, get the glide2x.dll ver.
2.53 from www.the-fastlane.com and put it in the gpl folder.

Before you buy.
Hello all-
I'm having a few problems running GPL on my system:
1) D3D and 3dfx will not run. The game starts, but locks within a few
seconds.
2) In software mode, the game will crash to desktop. This doesn't happen
all the time, but it happens a lot.
Here's what I have for hardware and such:
Gateway P2-450
128 MB RAM
VooDoo2 card running latest drivers from 3dfx site
ATI RagePro video card
Creative Labs sound card
I'm not sure what else may be important information, but I'm hoping that
someone here had a similar experience and/or knows what I may try to get
around these issues. I appreciate any help!

D3D is not an option for your Voodoo card. You don't mention what
version of gpl your running. Have you installed the 1.2 upgrade
patch? It's available from the Pits: http://www.theuspits.com/

I do have the patch installed already, version 1.2.0.1, got it from Sierra's
web site.

Actually, if you change D3DDevice from 0 to 1 in the Core.Ini file,
you can use it with a Voodoo2. Only problems are that it's a lot
slower than using the 3dfx rasterizer and that there's no mouse
cursor.
Generally irrelevant info, but it bears mentioning.

What resolution are you using?
I have an almost identical system and GPL locks "within a few seconds" if I
try
running 1028*764 or higher. 800*600 works just fine, occasional hang but so
rare that it doesn't bother me that much.

Hi Gurk,
I remember I got GPL crashing (right after my first mouse movement) which
was due to an incompatible glide-driver (2.54) reverting back to 2.53 solved
it for GPL.
My advice: get the latest voodoo drivers from 3dfx-site and see if it works.
I also noticed that some V2 boards (I had a Diamond Monster 12MB) are very
critical towards overheating. Adding a fan solved this problem for me.
Success,
Jan.

The reason I ask, is that I have had lock up problems while running online,
and I traced some lockup problems to an application I use called Zone Alarm.
Zone Alarm is a mini firewall type program that will alert me to other
systems trying to access my system. It reports GPL trying to handshake with
the server computer, but the dialog box that makes me aware of this
information is on the windows screen. So firewall setup may cause lock-ups.
Don't know why offline lockups would happen.
