err, let's just think about this one for a minute. Without steering help,
and playing with a keyboard, you're gonna be steering either full lock left,
full lock right or straight on.
Now d'you really think you can drive an F1 car like that? I don't think so.
As for not being able to spin, you're not pushing hard enough.

I finally bought the game today and I want to say I'm deeply
disappointed. Not because of the game itself, but the keyboard
controls. I don't have a wheel and I prefer keyboard to my gamepad for
racing sims.
Nobody told me before I bought GP3 that you CAN'T turn the steering
help off for keyboard. It's very silly. I'm not an amateur. I don't
want any help. The help system is very intrusive. It kicks in when I'm
going into pits, going out of pits, turning hairpins, turning chicanes
etc. It doesn't even let me spin even if I want to do it deliberately.
What's the fun if you know that can't spin out no matter how bad you
are driving? Do I have to hire Fisichella to take me out? :)
If somebody had told me about this, I wouldn't have wasted my money.
So, this is my warning to anyone who wants to buy the game and doesn't
have a wheel. I'm very sad because of this as a GP2 fan, but don't
waste your money on GP3 until you buy a wheel.

bullshit - you guys with your 'wheel only' attitude are just plain wrong. I
have until recently always used a digital gamepad to drive with - that means
either on or off just like a keyboard. Yet by pumping and tapping the
buttons (or keys) you can learn to regulate steering, braking and gas almost
as effectivly as a wheel.
again....this sounds like a case of Crammond knows best......
I saw a patch at www.alphaf1.com/gp3 that was called "driving aid enabler".
I think it was designed to turn on help in pro mode but perhaps it will also
allow you to change whatever you want also?

I understand that some of you guys may need the help but I don't and I
can't understand why I can't turn it off. It feels like going on rails.

no way.

I dont know why you're surprised. The keyboard controls are
exactly the same as they are in GP2 and GP1.
For a cheap solution get an analogue joystick (or even gamepad).....there is
no doubt that analogue is better for feeding in power and judging corners.
The ultimate solution is wheel and pedals, but this is a bit of an
investment.

It's been mentioned numerous times in numerous threads.

Any PROOF of that? :-) It's impossible.
Did you turn off traction control in GP3?

They certainly don't seem that way to me. For keyboard control, I think
GP1 was better than GP2, and GP2 was better than GP3.

Agreed....my one major gripe is the steering help and not being able to
switch it off for keyboards.

How did you differentiate between a mild turn and almost full lock (for
hairpins)?

(Grin) I think what you MEAN here is that GP2, F1RS, MGPRS and F12000
were better at concealing the fact that they were giving you steering
help and you didn't NOTICE you had steering help with them. Here's the
test - in GP2 or F1RS, press turn right while travelling at speed. If
the wheels go to full lock right and you spin off the road then congrats
- you had no steering help on. If the wheels go to a softer lock then
sorry, you did have steering help on all this time and just didn't notice.

I wanna see you lap Monaco in GP2 with keyboard and without
steeringhelp. Good luck!
