I spoke to Hasbro Technical today. They first of all told me that GP3 was
not compatible with Windows ME, then said that i had to install directx7.0a
from their CD as directx7.1 (which comes with WinME is not compatible). I
then told the nice gentleman that he was talking crap and that was not a
suitable answer as i had no problem with other games and that the main
complaint on newgroups was lack of force feedback in controls. After a ho
and a hum and a 2 minute wait he came back and told me to contact them next
week as a PATCH was imminent. HURRAY - at last someone may have got
through to them.
Hope this will be soon and hope this will answer your question.

It's crap because they aren't supporting an OS that hasn't been officially
released? I'd tell you the same thing that I tell my customers that want
support for upcoming OS's, sorry and goodbye.

True, but you also need to keep in mind that GP3 is a re-release of a game
that is 4 years old. You think they give a damn about the future? They
don't seem to care much about the present.
Development teams can't waste much time worrying about an OS that hasn't been
released. There is something known as design that must be done at the
beginning of the development cycle, and if the OS isn't done when the game is
finished it sure isn't even feature complete when the development cycle
began. So why worry about supporting something that may or may not happen?

Why don't you just install DX 7.Oa and play the game?.
I got an Microsoft Sidewinder USB wheel to play GPL and N3
I then upgraded to win 98 SE which installed DX 6.1a(I think)as default
and guess what, the wheel wouldnt work with either game 'cos MICROSOFT
MS wheel and DX6.1a(another MICROSOFT product) wouldn't work with the
games that had been working with win 98 and DX6.1. I didn't blame
PAPYRUS for that I blamed MICROSOFT (and as promptly as possible re-
formated and re installed my 'old' Win 98 and DX6.1. and have since put
DX7.0a and had no problem.
Or have I missed your point?

I am running Windows ME and Gp3 with no problems. Tell Hasbro Tech Support to
go fly a kite.

Oh, come on! Microsoft gives preview versions of upcoming OS's to developers
MONTHS in advance. There is no excuse for incompatibility with an operating
system just over a month from public release.
I hope you have rather loyal customers.

I can see a pattern forming:
"I'm having trouble with this game, will these problems be fixed?"
"Of course they will, of course... (whispering someone) there's another one of
those Formula One nutters on the lines, shall I give them the patch line again,
good, OK then (voice returns) yes I've just received confirmation that a patch
is indeed in the works. Meantime, may I interest you in an inexpensive copy of
Gunship!?"

The only problem for us is that Hasbro will give the people that work with
GP3 the pink slip before they patch it to an acceptable level.
(The banzai-AI opponents is my all time favorite. Makes me remember why I
stopped playing GP2.)
