Re: Which game has best FF effects, and which makes most of LWFF?

Best FF I've driven is still TOCA 2 - the feeling of power-on understeer is amazing. My lap times plummited with FF on, over FF off. Doug Glen Priest <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hi, I looked at all the reviews and decided that the LWFF would be the best buy, plus the price I got was good. It should be arriving next week, so I was wondering which games use it to its best potential? I like the look of Rally Championship, how good are the FF effects in this game? Evidently there are a number of issues with GP3. How badly does the problem with not being able to use the break and accelerator at the same time compromise the abilities of the LWFF? How well is FF and LWFF support implemented in TOCA2, F1GPW and GPL? Somebody mentioned on this group that the FF effects in NFS : Porsche Unleashed were not cutting edge. Which driving games out there would anybody class as having the most advanced FF effects? Indeed, which is the best driving game out there? Thanks for your advice. Regards, Joel

You will probably find that the most _accurate_ FF effects are in GPL. (You need to download the 1.2 patch though, and then tweak the core.ini file) Unlike many other "sims", the effects let you subtly feel exactly what the car is doing at any given point. However, if you're more interested in feeling big impact collisions, etc, there are plenty of other games out there that will provide that to you. Regarding GP3, the lack of split-axis doesn't compromise the performance of the LWFF per se, (It detracts equally from the performance of any wheel.) so don't let that fact steer you away from the LWFF. I have an LWFF and an older TSW wheel. On certain sims such as GPL, GP3, Monaco GPRS2 and Superbike2000, I can use the LWFF along with the TSW pedals, which makes for a nice combination. (Some others have gotten this mixed set-up to work with Mobil 1 Rally Championship as well, but I couldn't.) Speaking of Rally Championship, I feel that the LWFF works well with it. You can really feel the road vibrations, etc. FF is pretty good in this game. Many here will also tell you that Viper Racing has excellent FF effects, but I haven't played it much so can't say either way. And many others like the FF in F1 2000, although the game itself probably will require that you apply a few patches in order to run it well. Hope this helps, and enjoy your LWFF. Joel Miller wrote:

I think that the FF effects in GPL (the FF is enabled via a patch-the original game did not include FF) are first-class and superior to those in other racing sim. Nothing else gets very close in that regard to GPL, in my opinion. I think the FF in both Porshe Unlimited and F1WGP are quite usable and that the forces make both games more entertaining and immersive. (I returned my copy of F1WGP, but for reasons other than the FF quality) They are not, however, the equal of GPL in my view. Rally Championship/Mobile 1 Rally has had some criticism in this NG , I think on the basis of physics and FF effects. but for my puny skills and understanding the FF was fine and the graphics fabulous! I'd guess that for most on this NG, GPL, with the significant comittment of time and effort it requires, continues to be "best driving game out there" and the game's FF effects are also the cutting edge. For most who have posted here, GP3 was not the world-beater that it was hoped to be, so the next candidate for greatness is World Sports Cars, and for that one I can hardly wait! Good luck, and let readers know what you decide. (BTW, I saw the LWFF listed at ComputerGeek for $58! I think they are refurbished, store demos, returns or something but are guaranteed to be satisfactory and without defects. I'm thinking about replacing mine, which will soon be a year and a half old. :-))) * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
Its to do with authentic car control, unless the brake and throttle on your road car are somehow connected, in which case I could be wrong. But I suspect that split axis is not available in GP3 precisely because the FF effects are so poor. Yes you can feel the curb, you can feel understeer/oversteer. But that doesn't stack up very high against GPL's effects. Steve What has split axis to do with FF effects?

Do you get FF through the full motion of your wheel? I have a 10% or so spot in the middle (not dead zone since movement of wheel affects movement of car) where there are no ff effects. This is very unsettling to me. I have a LWFF. Curious if it is a controller issue of game issue. It depends if you want a game or a sim. Their are plenty out there that can give the wheel a good shaking, but GPL comes closest to giving realistic force feedback split axis etc. GP3 is not a problem with the combined axis issue, because the FF, although smooth, is crap anyway. Viper Racing has good effects (includes vertical weight-transfer FF) but nothing touches GPL. No one else has 3D weight-transfer intergrated along with road grip effects. Try lowering the low sensitivity percentage for the steering in the Control options, or even set it to 0%. This makes a big difference for me, albeit with a MS Sidewinder FF wheel. Bart Westra <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8mhqdm$vhp$[email hidden]...

Once you get the settings right, GPL has the best and the most useful FF effects. You'll find lots of games where FF is used for entertainment purposes only, like a vibration when you go over a curb, but in GPL it actually helps you control the car. Also again unlike most games, GPL lets you compensate for the lag in the FF, which is a bit irritating in GP3. You do know, that FF effects in sims put forces on the wheel that you don't get in a real car? So comparing them to the real thing is quite silly. The FF effects in GP3 are equal to the effects in GPL in their usefullness to know what the car is doing, with or without split axis. -- l8er ronny Your mouse has moved. Strange, I have more lag in GPL's FF effects. Maybe I'm using the wrong parameters in the ini file? -- l8er ronny Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change to take effect. So which forces are the ones you don't get in a real car Ronald? Yes you get more forces in a real car, and in a sim, say GPL, you get some forces that equate as close as currently possible to a real car. But I have never heard of 'new ' forces. Maybe you have discovered something that Stephen Hawking would be interested in? Have you tried the FF in GPL as a matter of curiosity? Steve Ronald Stoehr wrote in message <[email hidden]>...

Thanks for the responses. I've got a good idea now which games I should buy first. GPL will be first at only 10. Sounds like I'll be in for some serisous tweaking to get everything working right. Why else do we buy PCs! Thanks, Joel
