There are a number of "demos" I have found. The one to get is 18mb in
size, (the others are twelve) and is available from www.papy.com
(Actually there is a way to get FF, all the cars and racing in the demo
... just Watkins Glen as the track though. It makes you get your money
out for the full version even quicker despite the fact that you find that
you are going to have to run with less in the way of graphics detail to
get a decent FPS reading.)

You can donload the demo from here...
http://www.avault.com/pcrl/demo_temp.asp?genre=sims_racing&game=gplegends&size=13.2
Keep in mind that the demo is old and will not include the Direct 3D,
force feedback or other enhancements that are part of the 1.2 patch.
You can BUY the game from Sierra here...
https://store.sierra.com/ObjectBuilder/ObjectBuilder.iwx?ProcessName=ProductPageSierraSKU&Merchant_id=1&SKU=70481
Since i heard so many good stories about GPL i really want to try it.
Someone knows where i can download a DEMO or the Full game ???
If you dont have a 3DFX card, you will not want to buy GPL once
you see it in software mode. You can get the D3D patch to work
with the demo and it's 10000% times better.
Give it some time .. bear in mind, in GPL, cold tyres are modelled
and that means about less than 50% normal grip for the first lap
or two, don't be in too much of a hurry to turn off the aids and
go for the Grand prix Cars.
If you are even 25% impressed buy the full game, it on discount
almost everywhere (about 10 in UK).

How is this done?

The GPL demo is very poor if you don't have exactly the right
hardware. In fact I was disgusted.
But GPL is the ultimate sim once you buy it. F12000 and GP3 are
nothing but games. (i will admit GP3 is fun to play)
It really *IS* worth buying.....it it pretty cheap everywhere nowadays
(9.99 in the UK), but beware there is a very BIG learning curve....but you
will get past it within a few weeks of solid playing and after that you will
be addicted forever....you will wonder why you bought all those other games.
My friend bought a playstation for the original Gran Tourismo.......and
recently bought GT2......I have since ruined his life by introducing him to
GPL.........."Oh the howl of the Ferrari - it tortures me" - a quote from
his email.
See you in VROC

Got a TNT2 M64. So 3D should
run well.
So i know where to get the demo know. But where can i get the patch (is it
working on the demo?).
Sure i am gonna buy the game, but first i go travelling for 9 months, so i
dont feel like buying it now, but i am curious!!!

How?
Is there any way to race against opponents in the demo? Or is it
simply testing session only?

Hey it's you HJ, didn't look at the name when I posted the reply,
know you from F1WGP forum etc.
The D3D patch works with the demo and you can get it from www.papy.com
just follow the links for Grand Prix Legends and Downloads. You need
to read the README file and CREATE a file called core.ini in the GPL
directory (which you usually have with full version, but not in demo
on install).
It should look something like this (at end) . I don't think I've
tweaked anything.
As another responder has said, there is a steep learning curve, but
it really is worth it. Especially so if you buy the full game and have
a FF wheel, it really is spooky, rev the engine and feel the vibration
through the wheel etc.
There is tons of sites out there with bolt-ons which make the game
even better, very detailed track guides, setups, many hotlap sites,
numeroius free tracks which are excellent and more coming, add on
sounds (the originals are spine-chilling), every car in the full game
feels v.different and has it's own character. You MAY be able
to use some of the bolt on dashboards/tracks etc. for the demo
(don't know myself)
And finally, what a great community GPLers are, very much in the
spirit of what 1960s Motor Racing was about, OK, we can be a
bit "gushy" about GPL and dismissive of many other products but
you got a question, need help to go faster etc. etc., post here or
on the High Gear forum and you'll get plenty of help.
With you card you should easilly get 36fps at 1024 x 768 (GPL is
limited to max of 36). The cockpits are not bad but take a look at
the GPLEA www.gplea.org where there are replacement cockpits,
bodies, tyres etc. also free tracks.
BTW, with the full version on GPL you get to race on the 67
Nurburgring, 14miles, 174 turns, bloody marvelous.
Definitely, without doubt the best 10 I ever spent, even if it cost
100 it would still be the best gaming investment I ever made.

HJ,
You need the full game, then add the 1.2 patch (from www.papy.com) or
you may even find it on the CD. You then just need to add a few lines
to core.ini to enable it and configure various elements of it. Well
worth it if you like FF as GPL is the best FF implementation IMO. It
can be a bit tricky to setup, if you have probs post here and I or
others will help.

Depends what you are looking for. Graphically its not
staggering, but for racing Physics there is nothing to even
comes close to it. Sounds are superb. Some great tracks
(Monza before the chicances, 1967 Monaco and of course
the 14mile Nururgring. Also the add-on tracks I mentioned
are easilly as good if not better than some of the originals,
we've just had about 4 new tracks from enthusiasts in the
last 4-5 weeks.
Ask many GPL fans about how GPL compares to other
sims and they'll replay "are there other sims" ... and most
of them are quite serious, they "play" nothing else.
"... It's not a game .. it's a way of life ..."
Good luck with it.

Thnx very much. Have to say, i am just testing how its like. First i go
travel for 9 months, so no racing then.
Anyway i got two questions:
1. how do i get Force Feedback. I dont see it in the game
2. the site you mentioned isnt available. Temporary or did you give a wrong
site
www.gplea.org
My opinion for now on F1 sims is:
1. F1 2000
2. GP3
3. F1 WGP
GPL cannot be compared with those i think

There are two demos available. One at Watkins Glen and the other at Monza. You can find them both on the GPL section of The Us Pits. www.theuspits.com

Well MaXX, I dont buy the game now, cause i go travelling.
But dont you think its possible to change the core.ini file in the Demo in
order to get FF ?? Do you know which lines i should add ?? Do you have the
FF files ??
Let me know (the D3D patch also worked on the Demo, so...)
