Anti stall in a Semi auto (f1) engine will drive you forward with out any
input from yourself...

The engine management software in real F1 cars tries to avoid stalling the
car at all times by either engaging the clucth or raising the revs (normally
engages clutch when the revs hit a certain 'low')

Tricky if you've got an ancient DAF like a bloke near me... (CVT, you
see).

Get in your car, start it up, put it in first gear then take your foot off
the clutch, then get yer foot off the brake, what happens?
Now put it in neutral or press the clutch.

Hi! I noticed that too, both with keyboard and wheel (Thrustmaster F1
Racing Wheel). You'll come to a complete stop if you switch back to
neutral. So I guess it's just the way the game is programmed. Dunno if
real F1 cars have this too.

Ah, the menu system is almost identical to GP2's. I played that game a
lot, so for me it's really fast, don't have think, just know where
everything is :) You'll get used to it. Btw using the menu with your
keyboard, once you know where everyting is, is a LOT faster than
clicking everything with your mouse.

Doesn't want to. Oh, you mean press the clutch and put it in first? OK.

Um, nothing?

Still nothing. What's wrong here?
;)

if u can remember back to suzuka in 98 when schuey stalled on grid , the tv
camera was right at the side of him on the grid when he stalled. and he
rolled onto grid in neutral and waited for the others to line up then as he
engaged first gear the car jerked forward a touch and the engine cut out.
well the clutch failed and stalled the engine because he was holding the car
with footbrake. even with clutch fully engaged it doesnt completely
disconnected the drive because of the design limitations of the dry clutch
and the high revs involved. if they developed a clutch like a normal road
car it would only last a few minutes because of the extreme forces applied ,
so they develop a smaller clutch which will just allow engagement of 1 st
gear then the auto box takes over from there. u still wake ??!!
hope that cleared up or confused u even more !!!!

It lurches and stalls....

However, in almost all games (err sims), the car comes to a complete
stop and stays stopped.... Try getting the Brabham rolling again in GPL
after doing that.... You almost have to put the clutch back in and rev
that beast to get rolling again....

In reality the engine would die for you if you don't use a clutch. That
is from standing still of course but If you letting go of the throttle
in a little speed the engine probably will push the car forward IMO.
Surely they programmed it that way because most people don't use clutch
in modern F1 sims.

Even when set to manual geering, my car coasts forward under its own
acceleration when in gears 1-6 after I've braked to a complete halt, just as
an automatic car would.
Is this unique to F1 cars, or is it my steering wheel setup?
I'm using a MS Sidewinder wheel, not force-feedback. It was a nightmare to
setup!
On that note, can anyone else use the gear buttons on the back of the wheel?
I have to use the top row of buttons on the front of the wheel.
I have not played many F1 sims, and this one's menu system was like a maze to
me.
Any tips would be appreciated,
Stuurm

That's my point. Why doesn't the car stall on me when I brake to a full stop
in first gear and take my foot off the accelerator? Is the car perpetually
with the clutch in?
If so, then it would not move at all.
..and yet it does...
