That sounds like the way to go. But what is the "setup.exe" that you mentioned (registry hack)? That's what I'm concerned with, not having to reinstall (to make the registry changes) and just unzip everything to the hard disk. Please let me know, and thanks for your suggestion ;-) L.S. Hi all.... It occurs to me that most of us who play GPL do so with our own heavily patched versions (i.e., 1.2 patch, D3D patch, GPLEA cars/dashes, custom sounds, etc., etc.). There should be a way to back up a GPL installation (take "snapshot" of it, if you will, so that we don't have to go crazy looking for all this stuff when we want to reinstall after reinstalling Windows, for instance. Is it enough to make a copy of the game directory (I would imagine there are registry entries that would need to be copied, as well) and then just copy it back to the HD, or do you install it fresh from the CD and then copy (and replace) from your backed up files? Or better yet: Has anyone figured out how to make a custom install CD that, in place of the original files, contains our very own customized GPL? I'd do it myself, but I have neither the knowledge or the time to get into it. Perhaps someone more resourceful could tackle this project? L.S.

What worked for me (several times) is 1. To copy the whole GPL dir over the fresh installed one (therefore the whole GPL folder is the backup) 2. After uninstalling GPL copy whatever is left in the GPL folder for safe keeping, but this way you will have to patch the game every time... when installing it over again.. Just copy the whole GPL directory. It works fine. I have 2 copies of GPL on my HD. When new stuff comes out (cars, dashes, tracks) I sinstall it on my 'test' copy first to make sure all is ok before installing it in the main 'working' copy. Kev Luis Soto wrote:

Doesn't help you with the patches, but: all the small adjustments I backup frequently by zip-ping all the *.ini files.
