I'm glad you didn't get into an accident. We don't have force-feed back pedals yet. You still need to apply lots of pressure to stop your road car, but you know that skidding isn't necessarily the fastest way to stop -- less control too. Sims are good for showing us how a car behaves at the limit or too just drive the speed-limit because speeding kills. Jason. Dave Henrie wrote:

I was driving in the city(Spokane, Washington) and found I needed to jam on the brakes due to a sudden stoppage of traffic. Before I knew what I was doing, I applied the same gentle touch I try and use in GPL to prevent tire lockups and let me tellya.....I wasn't stopping... If I coulda I should have slapped my foot silly, but I did wake up in time to mash on the brake pedal with authority... -- dave henrie Free the ICR2 source code!

Before Iknew what I was >doing, I applied the same gentle touch I try and use in GPL<snip> I paid for a spin in a single-seater at a local track (Mondello). My progress with GPL led me to assume I would have F.Briatore cirling me shark-like afterwards. Before letting me into a little Formula Vauxhall, I was driven around by an instructor in a Ford Fiesta, and then I was to drive a few laps with him beside me. I don't know why, but I couldn't get myself out of GPL mode and squeezed carefully on the *clutch* as late as I dared! The instructor nearly had a heart attack and started questioning me closely as to why I trying to left-foot brake. I really didn't want to answer him ;-) The human mind is a funny thing, or at least my one is. Once I got myself back to "three-pedal" mode, I know I was trying to drive like I drive my road car, and my lap times (on a very wet track) were mediocre at best. I wound up disappointed as I was lame enough to beleive that my growing (cough) proficiency in GPL would somehow help me on the track. Instead it nearly saw me total the car :-) I beleive that this conclusively proves that if a clutch was modelled in GPL and present on my LWFF, I would be the fastest driver in the world. My GPLRank? Erm, haven't got that far ;-) Michael ----------------------------------------------------------- Got questions? Get answers over the phone at Keen.com. Up to 100 minutes free! http://www.keen.com

Reminds me of a few years ago when I was driving a lot of Monster Truck Maddness and Nascar 2. I came really close to bumping the car infront of me as they were holding me up. That would not have been pretty! :-O SLG "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote:

About US$1130 for the saloon tuition and 15 laps in the single- seater. It's basically the Irish equivalent of your Skip Barber Racing School thing. If you haven't done it, I absolutely recommend it - it's the best way to blow 100 I know of. Michael ----------------------------------------------------------- Got questions? The Wifey from time to time has casually asked (while grasping the dashboard with fingernails and teeth) whether I have been driving that sim around again....since I love practicing my skills newly honed GPL skills with her in the car....hehehe. Late braking on the inside of another car on a 2 lane highway is always such fun....and lots more exciting than doing the same in GPL.....<VBG> PAPA DOC
