i have the exact same problem, without the sidewinder software there is no way to make the generic w2k's driver have a non split axis, something which gp3 doesnt support, neither does game controller software support swf files youd reckon microsoft would have proper profiler software out by now..but nooooooo "news" <djedda@ hotmail.com> wrote in message news:5psk5.11099$[email hidden]... > Hi there......... if somebody could help me with getting above combination > working, I would be very thankfull..... > > What I did is the following....... > > Installed the MS sidewinder wheel with the Win2K driver...... calibrationin > Win2K works perfect, both steering and pedals...... > > But to get it working in GP3 I had to use some kind of fix.... Hi there......... if somebody could help me with getting above combination working, I would be very thankfull..... What I did is the following....... Installed the MS sidewinder wheel with the Win2K driver...... calibration in Win2K works perfect, both steering and pedals...... But to get it working in GP3 I had to use some kind of fix.... I downloaded a zip file with a .con and a .sww file. The .con file I can use in GP3, but I'm not able to use the .sww file anywhere... I think it is a configuration of the wheel that can be loaded in a configuration program what installes when u use the original install. But when installing under Win2K there is no such option as to load some sort of configuration. My break pedal won't work in GP3, and playing without a brake pedal isn't that much fun....... So if somebody knows how to work this out......... please tell me! Thanks in advance....... Bjorn Simmelink

- Under Win2K you don't get to set any properties for the wheel - Under Win9x you can download a profiler with which you can set combined axes (Win2K always seems to do split axis) - GP3 cannot do split axis for the MSFF - Win2K+GP3 is a no-no. (although some people say the play it nevertheless? how do they do it?) >My break pedal won't work in GP3, and playing without a brake pedal isn't >that much fun....... That's because it's split axis, and GP3 can't see that axis. GP3 is a bit lame in that way (after 4 years; GP2 was able to though), but a patch is in the making, to be released this millennium. Dunno about the FF version, but it probably does, since the even older one does. But no harm in trying me thinks -- / joker - or Joakim Lauridsen if you like...

(although some people say the play it > nevertheless? how do they do it?) I do it, with no FF though. I have a borrowed MS sidewinder wheel, and since I couldn't find anu Win 2K drivers or anything, I let it install the PnP drivers then installed the win 98 software which came eith the wheel, and that works fine. I downloaded the zip file to, but didn't use it. I got inspirred by the readme file and configuered my own. Didn't take 5 minutes, and now it runs lik e a dream. Well it doesn't my cpu isn't fast enough, but it the wheel is great. Now I'm saving for a faster cpu and a FF wheel.... :-) Would the game run faster, if I tried under win98? -- / joker - or Joakim Lauridsen if you prefer...

Hm, very interesting. The 3.02 controller software that's not been updated for over 2 years now? :) I must try that. ... >Would the game run faster, if I tried under win98? Perhaps, but even probably. Try it. Win98 is less demanding sometimes on system resources, and this may give a little boost. Although probably most of the difference is up to the graphics drivers. Just to follow up on this thread I started... First, thanks for all the answers. Clearly , its quite simple to get the paddle shift buttons and the brake pedal to work just by setting up a profile for GP3 in the MS Sidewinder software. Second, how in the world did anyone install the sidewinder software (ver 3.0 or 3.02) under Windows 2000 Professional? I've tried to install the software on two separate Win2K machines and both end up with the same result - that being a halt right at the beginning of the installation process with: a. If using the 3.0 software as came with the MS FF Wheel, I get a message box stating that "Setup can't install the SideWinder Gaming Devices software on your current operating system." and then that's it. Installation terminated (as opposed to some postings that I read in this newsgroup that indicated people only getting a warning after which they're able to proceed with the rest of the installation). 2. If using the 3.02 software as downloaded from the MS site, I get "Error creating process <setup\_SETUP.EXE>. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified." just at the point when most (or maybe all) of the files have been uncompressed from the swgameen.exe file. This leads to all the unpacked files being automatically deleted. I thought that perhaps I could find the 3.02 software in a zipped format rather than an auto-exe one which would get around this file decompression problem, but I haven't found a zipped swgameen file on the net yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Chris Hook [email hidden] "boom" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:399515f1$0$[email hidden]...

Doesn't work with 3.02 either I have dual boot, so went to WIN98, and expanded file there. Went back to WIN2K to install, won't work, says wrong software. Guess we will have to wait for MS to publish the 4 version. I believe I read that the 4 version is packages with a new MS controller. If true, perhaps someone would be kind and make it available to download somewhere. Bob
