To me (P3 450, 128RAM, Diamond Viper I32MB) it runs very smooth, your problem sounds like old or wrongly installed (don't mean to hurt you) graphic drivers. Maybe you should re-install the drivers as per instructions step by step... Unfortunately I notice the same problems. I am endlessly going back to the menus and playing with graphics options, but still end up getting perceptible "hiccups" in the frame rate, even when driving solo around the track, but only in hardware mode. Software mode runs consistently and smoothly. Hardware mode chokes and dies whenever there is smoke or rain thrown into the mix. I'll agree it's a relic from the past. But at the moment, it's so much fun, and the overall "look" is appealing, so I enjoy it and put up with the problems. I don't think there's a solution, not until they can the old engine and start over. Ok I can see that most of us do have PO under 100 most of the times but do you have fluid frame rates? I know I don't, using the fps utility does help (once you find the right fps balance for you) but only when I'm alone on the track while in race I get so much slo-mo that its ridiculous! Now if I set the graphics in such way to eliminate this ( still with some slo-mo) the game looks like crap!? I can understand all this at the start of the race, but on lap 10 with no one around down the hill at Spa doing 280 with the sensation like I was maxing 90!! that's strange! Now, I'm ok with it to be a "patched version" of GP2 I don't mind the : -same replay routine -lack of radio communication -lack of flags and pace car -98 Season and tracks -same setups for all cars (no tire data) -questionable physics -no Net play ..ect But with all this in mind the hardware (or is at all hardware related) demand for smooth gameplay is again ridiculous. I don't think the game calculates the physics and all the stuff GPL does along with sweet eye candy to cause this! And how can it be possible that the software and hardware mode is almost the same? In my experience so far with various games the hardware acceleration is at least 2-3 times faster than software!? Please don't take this post as a anti GP3 one, I just want to see other peoples thoughts about it and to hopefully discover that I did something wrong regarding the graphic setup of the game... I get very fluid frame rates with PO under 100%. Here's my specs. P3/550...128mb RAM......64mb ATI Rage Fury Maxx.......(I noticed that my machine works much better with full graphics at 800x600 or 1024x780 than it does at 640x480) So try ( I know it sounds weird...But try increasing your graphics options. Good Luck! With mine cel @550 + V3 3000 it runs like a dream, 1024x768 no hiccups whatsoever. Just turn down a little in mirrors...I always do that. Greatest modern F1 sim! that's a fact. -- Greetings Johan N [email hidden]

Don't get me wrong but its a bit hard to believe or your standards for smooth gameplay are much lower than mine... or like I said I'm doing something wrong in the graphic settings department... Looks great to me. I get annoyed by the graphical glitches which really should have been taken care of given the timeline BUT 1280 with 2aa on a v5/733 with fps at 42.5 and a po from 80-100. I should probalbly just leave it at 25.6 since it looked great there as well. I spend a bunch of time with GP3 when I really should be working on GPL (he he) just because i like the looks of it (and the zippy grippy rides). Tons O Fun, just wish the FF wasn't so laggy and draggy on my LWFF Chris On Thu, 10 Aug 2000 10:01:04 +0200, "Slick" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Well all I can say is that I'm quite picky when it comes to smooth gaming The graphics in Gp3 isn't as good as GPL but not bad at all IMHO I received my new celmine 600 today and boosted it up to 900 MHz and now I have the graphics slider max to left in automatic. Runs great with my Voodoo 3 3000 @183 MHz. Haven't tried that utility which measerues fps or PO (what is PO anyway?) -- Greetings Johan N [email hidden]

I have the 5.22 detonator drivers but I also tried the latest from Asus same thing I did manage it to go without too many slo-mo moments but those 23-25 fps that the game gives me just ain't enough... -- Oli BeoRocket Racing http://www.beorocket.co.yu/ "Heiko Thomas" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8muv2q$i37$12$[email hidden]... > To me (P3 450, 128RAM, Diamond Viper I32MB) it runs very smooth, your > problem sounds like old or wrongly installed (don't mean to hurt you) > graphic drivers.
