OK, now it seems I'm f***ed. Still struggling to get Solitude up
and running, I removed GPL (taking, of course, backups of all
the player and setup files and such) and started reinstalling it.
When the installer program was copying files to the hard disk, I get
An error occurred during the move data process: -117
while it's moving mexico.dat. Then it feeds me an "OK" button as if
this was ok, which it certainly isn't. Another window pops up:
ComponentMoveData had the following error:
Media name: DATA
Component: required files
File group: E:\tracks\mexico\mexico.dat
Error number: -117 (refer to the online help)
After another absurd OK button, the installer promptly then jumps to
the end of the install, tries to setup directx and activemovie, and
adds the usual Sierra Utilities junk to my program menu, without
asking, as always.
I then check out my GPL folder. It isn't there. All that the installer
did in the end was add the /sierra directory with setup.exe in it.
I retried to install the game once; this time I got a similar
error, but the file was rouen/track.ini.

I vote for this one too.
Check the cables. If all seems to be ok, replace drive.
