You're trying too hard, Alan -- GP3 was designed from the ground-up to
give us the best software-accelerated graphics available, while also
offering the best keyboard control ever. ECCI saw the writing on the
wall with regards to GP3, which may be why they pulled out of the
consumer controller market.
That said, I hear GP3 does support split-axis keyboard (i.e., you can
use different keys for throttle and brake functions).

[Note to Alan: Sorry I couldn't provide any real help -- I'm not aiming
this at you, I'm just simply frustrated with GP3 and all the
unwarranted attention it seems to be getting. Can't we all go back to
pandering over GPL? <G> At least I can understand that, because it's
definitely warranted in that case.]

Before you buy.
Just bought GP3 and trying to set it up to run with my MS Sidewinder
Pro just like I do in GPL
A Joystick Hori Steering
A Joystick Vert Throttle
B Joystick (not sure which = throttle lever) Brake
Firstly when calbrating Joy A GP3 only sees a range of 0-245 but I
know the joystick always goes from 0-255 exactly (because its digital)
Secondly when I move on to Joy B calibration it sees nothing at all
Something lame here - how can I fix it?

I couldn't get the brakes to work on my MS FF wheel, until I set 'Combine as
Y' on under 'pedal configuration' in the Sidewinder software. I.e. You need
to set up a profile for GP3, but you need that anyway to make the gear
change paddles work anyway. Now it's ok.

I get wheel and clutch on
1st and brake and gas on 2nd. How did you get wheel and gas on joy 1?

Trolling? Because I'm genuinely disappointed with GP3? Hardly.

This is a public newsgroup, pal -- I'm as entitled to post my opinions
here as YOU are. And when was the last time I made a post with
anything more than a passing reference to DTR, anyway? NFSPU and F12K
currently have my attention, so perhaps you'd better pull your head out
of Mr. Crammond's nether regions -- it seems to be impairing your
powers of observations.

There was a tip on the net (I don't remember where exactly) that in
Windows Game controller panel you do not use the usual setup for your
steering wheel, but just select two (2) 2-axis, 2-buttons controllers,
as this is how GP3 sees the inputs. Calibrate all axes in Windows for
both `virtual' controllers, and use controller driven calibration in
GP3. That will give you split axis plus an additional clutch axis (if
your steering wheel has that). I do not know whether this interferes
with FF effects, though.

Just keep out of the GP3 threads. Your constant whinging about GP3 is as
stupid as your constant praise of DTR.

Hey... this is the answer to split axis calibration in GP3, it's a real arse
way of doing it but it works! I tried as suggested and selected two 2 *
axis j/sticks in W98, one on ID1 the other on ID2, I then calibrated them...
one axis for steering, one for throttle on the 1st J/stick (ID1), the I
calibrated the brake and clutch on the other two axis on the 2nd j/stick
(ID2). Phew!!! Then calibrated all four axis in GP3 under 'race
controller'.... Joystick 'A' and 'B'. It transforms the handling of GP3 to
useit with split axis... I was previously using it under shared axis
(hopeless).
Thanks for the tip Gregor... this worked out well. BUT... why oh why is
this not mention in the damb manual!!!! If information like this to enable
setting up a wheel and pedals is not in the manual, whats the point of
buying s/ware, I may as well have d/loaded the warez version!

Oh well, keep on screaming like a kid: It's bad, it's bad. I'm sure
you'll
appreciate some other kid doing the same about F12k or DTR. Imagine one
of
those responding to every post about GPL with: "But it's too fucking
hard
to drive those cars!" Yeah, we all would like that, ey?
Hmm, did I call you a Ratbag ass kisser? Ever?

Your mouse has moved. Windows must be restarted for the change
to take effect. Reboot now?

pedal pots to the 15 pin gameport plug... but basically its wired to a normal
convention for wheel/pedals. Check out some web sites on wiring wheel/pedals
and j/sticks.
