Am I the only one who is missing flying parts in the crashes?
Or did I just miss them? <G>
Speaking of heart attacks, I'm regularly close to one if I drive
"into" the ghost car parking at the finish line ... :-)

First, I really like the looks of this one. Excellent FF on my LWFF (neck
and neck with GPL), great physics on expert mode (although a bit tough to
spin someone out), and stunning graphics. I'm running 800x600 2xFSAA and my
benchmark test is 44 fps. Now that's what I like to see on a PIII 600e@672.
This game is going to impress many GPL fans. It's physics may be second
only to GPL (if not equal especially the spins and wall collisions). Racing
in the pack hasn't looked or felt so good. It really shows the age of the
Papy Nascar engine. Although I expect a lot from N4 I'm not sure how much
better Nascar racing can get.

Fully agree with you Joe. Very impressive stuff. I hardly played N3, I
couldn't understand what the fun of oval racing was, but after being
'in the pack' in Heat, I think I start to understand why Nascar racing
is so populair. Very exciting stuff, cars all around you, bumper to
bumper, door to door..
And the crashes are truly spectaculair. I had my headphones on at
maximum volume, and I allmost got a heart attack when I got rammed at
full speed. Watching the replay was also very impressive, it looked
fantastic how the cars behaved during the crashes, very realistic!
Hasbro is making a hell of a mistake when they only will sell this
game in the US...

very nice...very nice indeed.
Here are the quibbles...
watching the replay at Richmond, Everytime we passed the start finish line,
the flagman was waving the checkered flag. I went to turn into the infield
and
hit the magic clear wall....Sound at 16 bit seems a little weak, but one
user has already posted that 8bit sounds better...
I barely caught Schrader on the last lap! :)
One solid thumbs up for this title!

Hey Todd I think your comparison of only fps is apples to oranges. I just
upgraded from a V3, it is a major upgrade. BTW, what is your cpu?
Keep in mind I'm running full detail, large textures (512x512 which V3 can't
do) and 2xFSAA which is the most amazing advancement in 3d cards since the
3d card. A V3 at 55fps with lower quality textures and jaggies can't
compare on any level to a V5 with large textures and awe-inspiring
non-jagged smoothness ;-) at 44 fps. It is worth the upgrade, ask around.

Rrevved, you can expect 40-45 fps, I think 50 is out of reach (maybe with a
PIII 733+). I'm running a 600e@672 with 128 MB ram. I'm getting 44 fps in
800x600, 2xFSAA, high detail cars (looks like large textures)and max detail
on everything else. It looks amazing. Not quite 50 fps but close enough
;-). My only worry is the fps hit with a full field. You really have to
see FSAA to believe it, screen shots don't do it justice.

Nah, I just tested that res and 2X FSAA on a P3 800 and got 44.3. Got
only 2fps lower at 1024x768. 800x600 4X FSAA gives me mid 30's.

Yea, I tried both the V5 and Geforce2 and overall I like the V5 better
because of the better implementation of FSAA. But, the Geforce2 is a
very nice card too. Although I found it's drivers pale in comparison
to the V5's. Have you read Papadoc's review of both cards? He prefers
the V5 too.

Turn off high detail cars, you'll get around 52 fps (not that it
seems to make much difference) @ 800 x 600 2X FSAA and
42 fps @ 800 x 600 4X FSAA.

OK thx, I'll try that.

Yes, you are probably correct Joe. My CPU is an Athlon 700 with a 900 core
that I am running at 1000. This probably gives a pretty significant boost to
me lil' ole' V3.
I guess I have to decide between a V5 or a Geforce II for my next video
card. Or maybe I should wait a while. I wonder what will be on the market in
about a year - video card wise?

It seems that "high detail cars" actually means "cars get drawn at
high detail at a farther distance", not that the cars themself have
more triangles or better textures; cause at close range (e.g. your
own car in the benchmark) there is absolutely no visible difference
(at least not visible to me :-).
