With all of this talk of video ram for Nascar Heat, I am about to get a
new computer and wonder if it would be a good idea to get the 64 meg
version, or if 64 is overkill.
Might be overkill now, but it will extend the life of the card. I have had
my Geforce since they first came out. At first I was at a disadvantage since
every game was made to run best on 3dfx. But eventually the games were made
to take advantage of what the geforce had to offfer. I think games will take
advantage of those 64 very soon. But is your system gonna be outdated before
then? If you are running a P2 or celeron, you will probably need to upgrade
that before you notice the difference between 32 or 64.

From the PC Gamer review in the Sept 2000 issue: "...the extra 32mb of RAM
(and considerably higher price) doesn't really seem all that worthwhile
given the minimal return in frame rates [in our benchmarks]..." However,
the 64mb card also includes "...a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) output for
connecting certain digital flat panel monitors."
By the way, PC Gamer said that the 64mb card they tested was shipped
overclocked and experienced a lot of lockups. But dropping it down to the
recommended 200MHz for core chipset and 333Mhz for memory cleared up the
crashes.

other important item, then go for the 32MB.
However, if this is a new ground-up system and you can afford to, go for the
64MB version.
I like to build ground-up new systems with the best of what's available, but
when money is a factor the best balance needs to be done.
For example, if it's a choice between the 64MB Card or 128MB of RAM, then
I'd get the 32MB Card and put 128MB Ram in the machine.
