Re: GPL: How airborne can you get?

I drove on top of a bridge at Silverstone, then carefully backed up diagonally off the edge. It ended up hanging almost vertically! Would be fun to do in a VROC race. "What's THAT?!!!? A car??!", you'd say as you whip past at 160 mph. :-) Todd Wasson

Hehe. I saw Clark take off like an ICBM, and fly down the track(while spinning like a rifled bullet). It was on one of the converted ovals...<g> Eldred -- Tiger Stadium R.I.P. 1912-1999 Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPL hcp. +51.95 Never argue with an idiot. I was racing Bruce McLaren last night. We touched. That all it takes. He was sent airborne and hit the Coca-Cola sign after Lesmos. He must have been 4 car lengths in the air! You can get the replay here: http://surf.to/speedyfast26 Another time I managed to put my car, sitting still, on top of the hedge in turn 1. Anybody got other cool stories?

In GPL, I once did about 30 piroutte's, on my head, along the top of a fence :) And it was a curved fence! One of those spectacular GPL anomolies that happen from time to time. Don't remember the track, though. -Larry "Jon Andersen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:PKBl5.13195$[email hidden]...

Backing up through the 'alien' section at Solitude I hit a wall spot on which launched my car up into a low Earth orbit where it stayed rotating furiously about the x-axis of the car at a fixed altitude until I finally stopped giggling and exited back to the pits. Interestingly enough the engine kept revving from 9,000 to 11,000 RPM. Interesting because it was an F3 car! - George p.s. I have the replay for those who are interested (1 MB)

I was driving an Eagle at Monza and lost it at the Ascari bend. I bounced off the right guard rail and then spun across the track and hit the left rail. At this point my car started spinning like a helicopter blade and I took off into the sky. I believe the car hit the virtual ceiling and then came crashing back down to earth. Never seen anything like it since. Dave Ewing -- ***************************************************** David A. Howdy ho, Speedy Fast, At the Pantsring track, if you get up to speed, then cut straight across the infield and straight up the banking, then flight times in excess of 10 seconds are possible, and in-car replays are quite dizzying! Or so I've heard .... Yr friend in the aether, smogbike

Sorry Tim, but there's actually a physics ceiling of 1000ft = 304.8metres. Not that that seems to bother GPL in some instances - 1000ft doesn't take 2 minutes to fall down from ! cheers, Phil Tim Wheatley wrote:

Ever overshot the righthander at Kesselchen? The one with the big hillside behind it? That makes one SCARY jump. At least I learned that might not be the perfect place for outside passes. The coolest crashlike affair I've had involved going through about four fifths of Burnenville sliding on top of the outside fence all wheels off the ground. +Cinquo

Pants Ring or Zandvoort will both launch you to the stars. You can go get a coffee and read a back-issue of "Goggles and Oil" before your car comes back down. Stephen Speedy Fast <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Take a look at http://www.sbdev.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/replay.zip which show one of the coolest GPL replays i've ever seen. It's a double forward flip landing perfectly back on all four wheels. Best viewed from the TV2 view. "Speedy Fast" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Just last night I was running at Monza and in a expression of frustration at spinning yet again, I pulled a 180 and headed back the other way. When I met G. Hill on the back straight before the parabolica we hit head on. I was immediately launced straight up for what looked like a mile, but must have been closer to 1000 feet :-) I mean I could see from one end of the back straight to the other and the other cars were just little tiny, tiny things. As I came spiraling down, something which had come off the car (tire, perhaps?) burst into flames above me. It was like a re-entry into the atmosphere. Right after that my engine burst into flames and I gracefully smashed into the ground. I saved the replay if anyone wants to see it. It really makes me want someone to create blimp cams, I didn't even know it could do that. It was really wild! Of course I tried it again, but could only achieve a rather artistic pinwheel type spin. Maybe it's because I hit a Ferrari that time... Kevin Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
