"vertex_damage yes" in the options folder enables visible damage but turning
it on porks load times. You might try turning it on just to look, but be
prepared for load times of up to 3-4 minutes+. It's not worth it.

I have been extremely excited for the release of Nascar Heat, especially
after reading in several PC gaming mags about how this one will give Papy a run
for their money.
Wrong. I am disappointed in the demo. Granted, the physics are probably the
best so far of a stock car racing sim, but nothing like what I believe N4 will
be like with the GPL engine. The adjustability of realism settings is nil
(arcade or expert) and to me, the overall feel of the game is still arcade-ish.
I hope the full version is much better than the demo, but I have a feeling
that this will only help me bide my time until N4 is finally released. (Thank
God!)
In my opinion, Papyrus will remain the Kings of Racing Simulations.

Load the sim, go to the race track setup screen and then you can select
"Hardcore" mode

Hey, thanks for the tip, this made a huge difference! I thought the
game was pretty good on expert, but on hardcore, the feel of the car
is awesome! After enabling it, I went and tried Richmond again, and
on my first lap out, I was coming off of turn one, and mashed the gas
down like I had on expert, like I do anytime I drive Richmond in N3,
just expecting to head down the back straight as usual. Imagine my
surprise when the car spun out into the inside wall! I corrected and
nailed the gas again, and the car fishtailed again into the outside
wall. Wow! Finally a game that makes me feel like I'm driving a
700HP+ car. You actually have to be careful of how much throttle you
use in the turns. To me, this what it should be like. I remember
Mark Martin being interviewed after winning a Busch race at Rockingham
once, and he was asked why he does so well in Busch cars at
Rockingham. His answer was that Busch cars don't have as much HP, so
you don't have as much problem with wheelspin coming out of the
corners. In N3, the car just feels sooo sedate, almost like you're
driving a 4 cylinder econo box. The only way to even know you're
driving a race car is to look at the speed pop-up and realize yo're
going 180mph. You almost never have to really baby the throttle...it
never feels like the car has a lot of power. I'm very glad to see
that NH has this sort of feeling and can't wait to drive it on the
other tracks now.
While the demo is very good, one thing I've noticed is that the cars
don't have any visual signs of damage. Will this be in the full
version, or is there a way to trun it on in the demo that I've missed?
A lot is disabled in the demo... N4 is more than half a year away, ample
time to get your money's worth from NH, IMO. But, if you insist on feeling
sad, be my guest.

a demo and doesn't include every aspect the full release will. Hold off on
final judgment until we see the whole game. Second, while N4 may someday be
king, it is long overdue, delayed once again and it doesn't win the
competition by being associated with GPL. You can't be the monarch if you
never make it to the palace. Let's see this thing head-to-head with NH.
Instead of slighting MGI why not congratulate them for actually delivering a
game that is extremely realistic, exciting to play and fast as hell on most
mid- to high-end systems. This is a welcome relief from the crap coding
such as SCGT or F12K (same game engine), the latter of which chugs on a
freakin' Cray. I don't think it's fair to take anything away from NH on the
*possibility* that another game may be better. Eventually every game is
surpassed (yes, even GPL by WSC if we're lucky), the question is when and by
what margin. When N4 is a reality, then we can compare the two. Even then
N4 will have had an extra 6 months development time so it better be superior
;-).
Comparing apples to apples, the best Papy Nascar game on the market (N3) was
just severely beaten by the new kid on the block (again not surprising given
the age of the respective game engines). Even IF Papy delivers what we all
hope for using the GPL engine, I still think it's going to be a close race
for best Nascar game ever made. This game just kicks ass. I can't imagine
delivering a drastically better experience than NH. Let's enjoy the "real"
accomplishment, a state of the art modern simulation that will be released
in 10 days.
BTW, it's nice to see some competition, it can only make games better.

HEy, while your in the options.cfg file you might want to try playing with
FOV setting if the cockpit bothers you. Its at 130 degrees but I like it
more down 100-110. It also seems to eliminate some, but not all, of the
virtual cockpit moving.

Demo was also
based on an older build than the gold! Nobody has the
gold including the outside testers so we will have to wait
to see the full deal!

So that's why I felt a bit put off by the driving model, as I couldn't
for the sake of me make the car a bit more loose upon trailing throttle
and corner exit. I did have a feeling, though, that this is not the
hardcore version I was playing, as Viper Racing had the oversteer in
heaps!
I can't wait to try it out again today, with hardcore to 'on'!

Agree 1000% Along those lines I was doing one of my league races in N3
yesterday and mentioned in the chat if anyone had tried Nascar Heat and a
couple of guys replied yes but they didn't like it. I'm thinking to myself
these guys are on drugs, I couldn't wait for the race to end so I could go
back to driving NH.
I thought I was getting tire of sim racing after 4 yrs but now I realize I
was getting tire of the same old N2-N3. It's funny how we all forget the
huge amount of bitching when N3 was released because it really wasn't that
different from N2. I still think the 3D sound was the only significant
improvement to N3 if you still aren't using your Soundblaster Pro !! The
only thing that can hurt NH is if the multiplayer is lousy which based on
what I have seen just ain't gonna happen.

How do I join a N3 league? Every time I go to play on Won.net most of
the games running are password locked so I assume these are leagues.
The open games have too many yahoos that run you off the track. Would
like to join a league with clean drivers.

I agree with the original poster, but I think Nascar 10 by papyrus is going
to blow away Nascar Heat, I can't believe MGI would put out such an ancient
driving model when Nascar 10 is going to have everything under the sun
(including cup-holders and an in-car movie) and is going to run great on my
pre-ordered Pentium 8 running at 5 gig! I can't wait for it's release on
june 3rd 2010!
