Here are my currents system's specs: Abit BX6r2 IWill II Slotket Alpha FC-PAL35T Heatsink w/Delta 38cfm fan Quantum EL 5.1gig HD Matrox Mystique AGP G200 w/tv out (2/3 divider setting) Toshiba 6x DVD Panasonic 4x/8x CD Recorder Realmagic Hollywood Plus mpeg decoder card 3Com 905TX Ethernet for Cable modem Video Highway Extreme 98 TV Tuner/Capture Card Soundblaster 16 Value 64mb PC133 Hyundai Sdram (settings for RAS-to-CAS=3, RAS Precharge Time=3, CAS Latency Time=3) I am into Grand Prix 3 right now and I mostly do hardcore simulation open-wheel racing like Grand Prix Legends and Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2. What would be my next best upgrade? Video Card (ie. GeForce2, 32mb or 64mb)? Ram (more or CAS 2)? Peltier Cooling? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Get more Ram. 64Mb is not very much by today's standards and will be seriously holing your system back. I've got 196Mb and that seems pretty good right now as I aways have some to spare. Geta 128Mb unit to ad to your 64Mb to get 196MB. try and get 133Mhz but Ii run my 100Mhz at 133 no problem (it's quality that counts). That should speed your system up no end. If you have money to spare get a good video card although you can probably survive a little longer with your current one. Geforce or Geforce 2 GT's are excellent. The best at the moment is the hercules Geforce 2 GTS 64Mb (pricey but nice). I'm happy enough with mr Guillemot Geforce DDR 32Mb. You probably could do with a larger hard disk drive 5.1Gb is small by today's standards. I've currenyly got about 40GB but I do have rather a lot of software. 20Gb is plenty. Your 700Mhz processor is more than you need right now (700's are very overclockable BTW, put on a good Heatsink and up the bus speed and you and get around 900Mhz!) The monitor is the most important piece of kit you can get and a nice good quality large monito combined witha good graphics card can make games look so much better. I run GPL at 1600x1200 on a 19in and it just looks absolutly fantastic (no more jaggies!) Unfortunately GP3 only runs at a max of 25fps (there is a hack to up that) so your not making full use of you CPU as it due to that horrible occupancy problem! hope I've been of help Some Call Me Tim

Ram will help...but as far as 3d effects...and 3d accelerated speed, you need to junk the matrox and look at either a Geforce2 or a Voodoo 5. Then believe it or not...your Soundblaster 16 may be holding you back some. espeicially the joystick port. Try either a newer Sb live or the Aureal SQ2500.(the Aureal company has filed bankruptcy so you can sometimes get some good deals at stores like CompUsa or on the web looking to unload them...The last drivers for the Aureal were pretty mature and solid before they closed up shop) The only reason you need MORE cooling is if you are going to overclock or overclock MORE than you are at present. Good luck...I think you will find one expense merely leads to another..the curse of the Sim-driver Sim-Pilot. dave henrie "f13dfx" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:uIWl5.160676$[email hidden]...

I have similar sytem (733--192ram) except more ram and a better video card. If you like GP3 and GPL you will love the v5 with fsaa. However, I hear the GTS is good as well and might be a bit better in the future. Probably wouldn't go wrong with either. Up the ram--changing timings will get you almost neglibile performance gains. I get 36fps in GPL at 960x720 x 4aa (and IMHO it looks better than 1600x1200 which I also get 36fps in) except a couple of tracks like solitude where I kick it down to 800x600. In GP3 i average about 50-70 PO alone on the track at 1280x1024x2aa but in Monaco in the rain it can hit 160 or more in a bad corner on the first lap. In NH demo I get 34 benchmark at 2AA 1024x768. Ram and Video. Go to 128 ram and V5 or GF2. I have a V5 and love it. -- Joe Marques Please remove "NO SPAM" to e-mail me.
