How does the faillure settings work. Are the faillures totally random or are
they affected by your drivingstyle. My Mercedes is acting like a Prost racer
on a bad day and blowing up all the time. I would like if its because i am
driving it to hard, and need to change the gear-settings, ridehight etc. to
something a bit more conservative or I just have to pray that I won't burn.
No it's random, each team has a reliability factor, but I'm not sure whether
this works for the player car as well. My McLaren has lost the transmission
in 3 of the first 4 races of the championship. I've lost my motivation, but
I'll come back.

I just blew my gearbox in Brazil as i did in Melbourne. I like Seasons
because you can speculate in placements and do not need to go racing like a
mad man to win. But if this is going to continue i must race like crazy in
the last races. Japan being a total black spot with me, this season is
looking bleak.

by revving out my gears too much, still, this may have been 'random' to an
extent by using the reliability factor, but it's also worth noting that by
doing donuts after about 10-15 seconds you'll blow your engine gauranteed...

If the water temp goes over 137 the engine will blow. I drove into a
wall head on and just sat there with the accelerator pressed down, the
temp kept going up and up, so that is not random.

I took the pole position at Brazil. Saved my game and came back to it the
next day.
Started up the saved game where I had the pole, skipped the pre-race
practice and headed straight for the starting line. 4 laps in (second place)
my transmission goes out and Im left coasting --- too far from the pits to
make it back. Curses fly but luckily this was a saved game...
SO - I step into the wayback machine and set the dial for pole position.
Back to the start I go. This time I have the lead going into lap four. EXACT
same spot on the track my transmission fails AGAIN.
Repeat - same result.

Isn't it that some failures are pre-calculated and some failures
happen coz of what you're doing. You can blow the engine by doing
donuts repeatedly - so it can't all be pre-calculated. I guess that's
actually pretty realistic. Some failures will "happen anyway" - e.g.
manufacturer failure and some will happen as a result of your driving.
