Re: NH Where's the Warez?

No NASCAR Heat warez, and the US-only release

Vintook asked why no pirated copies of NASCAR Heat had surfaced after it went gold, unlike GP3. Many credited the pre-release demo and tight beta team, and Monster Games' Ed Martin said warez links would help their lawyers and urged overseas buyers to order online. Europeans complained about the US-only release and import costs, and the long thread drifted into arguments about the ethics and effects of piracy.

I was thinking about this yesterday... my prediction is there will be some talk about it, but not anywhere near the level as it was for GP3. I'm not holding your post against you Vintook ;-) It makes no difference to me anymore... Anyways, It seems the NH beta test team is a very good one, the GP3 final was probably leaked by a beta tester in my opinion, as every piece of software I've tested I've had the pre-release/final before official release. If you feel need to inquire, I'm testing right now for Microprose on a flight sim, I'm testing soon for Blue Byte for a strategy game, and I've tested in the past for various... Anyways, don't worry about it, I know lots of people (including me) preach about not doing stuff, but you're free to not reply to those posts, and you're free to totally ignore them, it's up to you, bear in mind it is illegal, and it does hurt people like Ed to find that people from the USA with access to it would actually download it. I'm from the UK and had my order in quite some time ago from Chips n bits which was linked on www.nascar-racing-sims.com . My personal opinion of warez is that, if you do it, fine, that's up to you, but you should not provide links in a public manner to 'shove' it into people's faces, for example, the moderators on my forums are told to remove links from any posts linking to warez, the posts may remain but url is edited out. Anyways, don't worry 'bout it. -- Tim, [email hidden]|[email hidden] http://legends.sports-gaming.com/forums.shtml FREE forums for your league... http://legends.sports-gaming.com Sim racing website loosely based on gpl... When there is a decent demo and the developers are here helping us and answering our questions honestly, there is no need for the warez version. One good reason is the pre-release demo, that can really squelch the "try before you buy" Warez guys. Releasing a demo 3 months after release makes no sense, so once again good call on Hasbro's part on releasing the demo before it hit the shelves. etcher <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Itlm5.93$[email hidden]... > > Vintook <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:Mnlm5.41423$[email hidden]... > > Hasn't NH gone gold already? Being on the development team, why didn't you push for a more complete set of FF adjustments, ala NFS:PU? After pushing the limits in the options.cfg file, I noticed that all the forces are there, including some cracks in the road and the chassis dragging. But you can't feel them with the normal setup options. -- Slot www.slottweak.com Tweaks & Reviews "etcher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Itlm5.93$[email hidden]... > > Vintook <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:Mnlm5.41423$[email hidden]... > > Hasn't NH gone gold already? I know if I lived outside the U. S. I would get the warez version when it's out. Because I don't, I will buy it because MGI deserves the $ for this nice game. Correct. You people from UK don't understand what us Americans have been doing importing games. So far I've bought GP3, Rally Masters, RC2K, and Colin McCrae Rally imports. It's not much, here we have Interact CD in CA, so it was relitivly cheap :) But I know ordering from the US isn't much at all, just like $10 extra. It's not like games are that expensive, I'm 13 and have a paper route and can afford buying 3 games a month. Bunch of cheap basterds ;) For the 2nd best sim so far, I think they deserve every penny. I'm quite sure that this is because of the released demo. No need to download a warez version to test it, as it was the case with GP3. (I bought GP3 after I tried the warez version, even with all it's flaws. If I would have judged only by the reviews here on RAS, no way I would have bought it!) Andre

LOL, I know, look at the thread I started, heheheh. Anyway I don't support warez and will be the first in line at the store to purchase NH. I just wanted inquire why nobody had posted a message about warez yet. When GP3(2.5 really) went gold the warez was out that afternoon and from what I read it was the actual gold copy. Why was that? Europeans not very copyright friendly? Beta team not copyright friendly? Crammond himself put it out to act as a kind of demo? Now you have NH gone gold and nothing. Strange huh, at least I thought so. I think it just shows that the beta team was good, it is released in the US and releasing a demo negates the need for warez. When GPL went gold was there warez copies? I don't remember any, same story. I say good job MGI! I'm spoiled over here in Switzerland. They will send you big ticket items like televisions and stereos to your door without any pre-payment, and just your name and address. A little paper form comes in the mail with the amount owing, and you are politely asked to pay at your convenience. If a company offered that in Canada then (1) you could knock me over with a feather and (2) they would not last long. Hi Ed, Just wondering if the decision not to release nh in Europe had to do with Nascar licensing, or was it purely from marketing? I think most of the gents on this ng realize that we are not a good sampling of the general gaming market. Even if 100 guys on here from the UK want the game, that doesn't really mean it would do well in Europe overall. Nascar isn't that big outside of North America, but the guys on here are sim racers, mostly, and would race pop-up toasters or horses if they handled like the real thing. (hmm....how would you model the physics on horse racing ;) Licensing, or marketing? -- Slot www.slottweak.com Tweaks & Reviews "Ed Martin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:JHzm5.423$[email hidden]... > Or you could do the right thing & order it online. Gawd, I despise crooks. I'll tell you something gang, I have been very impressed as I'm sure a lot of you have been with the participation of Hasbro and MGI on the newsgroups . And now they have even released a demo prior to their shelf date. Well, there never was much prior support for GP3 and certainly no demo before the game's release. GP3 is a good game, but I was disappointed in Hasbro's handling of Internet play. Well, I shouldn't even say handling, as there is no net play at all in this game. It really suprised me that GP3 would have no Internet play. Is there a racing simulation released these days that does not include Internet play? And anyhow, I don't recall anyone from Hasbro coming here to comment upon GP3 as they have done with Heat. I think they realized that GP3 was not going to go over well, so they kind of stayed away. Also, seeing that GP3 was not initially released in the US-- that could have something to do with no GP3 support in this newsgroup and other places. Alanb

Resistance is futile Ed, for some reason, some people can think up the silliest excuses for using Warez, like the fact that it's not released in one particular country, which is funny when you consider that we're part of an "on line" community and plenty of "on line" stores will ship world wide..... I think that has been tried, at least in the US, with sites having links to illegally distributed software, and it didn't work if memory serves me right, probably more to the story than that, but it shows how difficult it is... I agree, but it is still a stupid policy. I have purchased many UK imports here in Canada and then a few weeks later they show up at "regular" price because someone decided to include us in their marketing campaign. It is very annoying. It has nothing to do with Hasbro. Ed works for the developers, MGI, who decided it would be a good idea to be here (accolades to them, too). Crammond et al did not. This is not a US newsgroup. People from all over the world post here regularly. There is a huge European contingent here. How many times have you been asked why the game isn't being released outside the US, Ed? Have you bothered to reply to the question yet? Yet you feel the need to make a lot of veiled threats regarding the poss Warez release. Well if thats your attitude SCREW YOU! I hopr the Warez version goes to the top of the Warez charts (or whatever those Warez types have)
Why you are picking on Ed after all the great support he's given us by answering many questions regarding Heat and it's demo? Hasbro obviously doesn't see a booming Nascar market outside the US. Big deal... order it online or ask a US bud to buy it and ship it to you. Do you really think Hasbro and Ed have it out for people outside the US? While you're waiting for a phantom warez of Heat to hit the top of the warez charts <and, um... trying to screw Ed>, I'll be playing Heat with a big freakin grin on my face! :-P Dave Ericson "MomoBoy" JDB Racing Marc Davey wrote:

This was billed as "the first NASCAR race outside the US". It was held Feb 28, 1988 at the then brand new $20 million Melbourne Thunderdome, a 1.25 mile quad oval with 24 degree banking. This was similar to the Japan races we see nowdays, in that it was a non-pts event. Neil Bonnett sat on the pole with Bobby Allison alongside. Other drivers in the event were Dave Marcis, Kyle Petty, Ron Esau (Winston West), Hershal McGriff, Bill Venturini, and M. Waltrip. It was actually a pretty entertaining race. There were many Aussie drivers in the field. But you have to remember....this was the first superspeedway ever built in Australia, and a very new creature for the Aussie drivers. The Aussie favorite was Alan Grice, who qualified 3rd for the race. He passed Allison on the first lap to take 2nd. But 3 laps later, Allison pulled under Grice, put a fender to him in the 4th turn, and sent him spinning through the grass. I think if not for the fence, the Aussie crowd may have sent the Miller Buick home in a box that day. <g> On Thu, 17 Aug 2000 15:38:52 GMT, "Marc Collins" <[email hidden]> wrote:

I know that I might be castigated for saying this, but Warez and such distributors of pirated games actually help computer gaming companies sell products. If you think about it, anyone who has money to spend and is generally a dedicated gamer, will buy whatever he has first gotten for free. And anyone who does not have money to burn and is also a gamer (can't be dedicated if you're pirating games)won't buy the games that he gets for free anyway. In the end the industry doesn't lose a lot of money, though its ego gets a bit battered, knowing that someone is getting something for free even though they wouldn't have bought the product in the first place. So Warez and such places can be a promotional palace for the gaming industry, just like Napster is a boon for the music industry. Of course the music industry doesn't understand this-- the same goes here as it does with the software gaming industry. Those who have the money might get the mp3s for free but in the end they probably will buy the CD. And they might even buy a CD that they had no intention of buying if they hear something that they like. The same goes with computer software. Just a thought-- which is really pretty basic economics, Alanb

Find one message where I've ripped anyone apart who uses Warez. You've got the wrong guy here, though I still think pirating is wrong. But for argument's sake, Warez does help the gaming industry. And I think the industry realizes this, possibly, and is just using pirating as an excuse to do the things that they do. As I said in my last post (and my only post on this topic), a person is going to buy a game no matter what, if they have the money and the game is worth it. Warez allows folks to look a game over, as it is when released; and if the person likes what he or she sees, then they'll buy the game. If not, they will delete it from the hard drive. Those that might decide to keep a pirated game probably wouldn't have bought the game in the first place. Alanb

How does the old saying go? Sarcasim is the lowest form of wit. I guess flaming ppl you don't agree with is just todays way of proving your ignorance. I wonder if these ppl would have the guts to do it face to face.................. On 19 Aug 2000 17:51:31 GMT, [email hidden] (EldredP) wrote:

I won't castigate you(sounds painful), but I'll disagree. I can see where loaning your copy of a game to a friend might convince your friend to buy the game. It's happened to me, both as 'loaner' and 'loanee'. But if you get a warez copy, or burn the CD, there's not much incentive to buy the retail package. Unless there's a nice historical manual, or something else you're interested in, you already have everything you need. If you were going to buy the game, you'd have done so in the first place. Sure there is an incentive to still buy the game. *Every* game needs patches and patches do not work on warez copies. If you have the warez version of GP3 for example and you want the patch to fix the game controller problems then you will most likely need to buy the game. I've owned maybe one or two games in the last 6 years that didn't need a patch(s). -- Nos
