I can't comment on GPL but they used to have in
house competitions with Nascar and they had tracks
and extras that we didn't have in the in our versions.
They played it over a giant lan and then went to
the board room to watch the replays on a big screen
TV. This was several years ago but I would doubt
that much has changed only the players are different!
