I just got my GEForce 2 card (specifically for Nascar Heat) and saw all of
the tweak options in the control panel. My problem is that I don't know
what does what. Is there a link to a site that has preffered settings to
get the most out of this card? Anything I can do specifically for Heat? I
hear about this hardware T&L, is it enabled by default or do I have to set
this up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
The Idiot with a Decent Graphics Card

That's not necessarily so. Quake2/3 uses it by default, for instance.
In fact, most OpenGL apps must be programmed to _not_ to use hardware
transformation by bypassing certain GL calls.

Hardware T&L gotta be supported by software ,i.e. game which you play.
Then you will see in that game's options screen something like "Enable
hardware T&L"
Cheers!

Not true. CommanchevHokum has *limited* T&L support and it is enabled
by default. You have to add a command line switch to disable it. I
guess it will depend on the game developers as to how it is enabled or
not.

Hi when you go into the settings, click on the little question mark next to
the X that normally closes the window, then click on the item you want a
description on.
(This can be a litter tricky actually, make sure you click the option before
the question mark and then click it with the question) dang them windows
people.

Actually it is true :)

That's only because that's how the programmers have decided to write their
game. The programmers are switching it on as a default setting in their
game, it isn't on by default in D3D as an API.
In D3D if you want to make use of hardware T&L you *have* to request an
IID_IDirect3DTnLHalDevice when you call IDirect3D7::CreateDevice. That
probably sounds like a load of jargon, but believe me, if you don't tell D3D
that you want to use a hardware T&L device, D3D won't use it.
Whether it's a sim or not is up for debate :), and I only have the demo, but
the recently released F1 World Grand Prix uses hardware T&L. The important
thing is that just about every game currently in developement *will* take
advantage of it.

Misunderstood you. I thought you were talking about D3D games and not
the API itself.

hardware T&L automatically and some only look for it once the user has
selected it. I suppose really it should be the job of the game to get the
best out of the hardware and auto-detect it.

be with us shortly, but I don't use it myself yet. Until they release the
new SDK (Software Developers Kit) I couldn't program with it anyway, so I'll
wait for the full release.
