There is no "demo" version of 3D Studio Max. If you have found one, it
is an unauthorized copy (i.e.: warez).

Will the 3D Studio Max demo suffice in me making one (or both) of my
planned SCGT tracks? Is there a time lock on it or something?

I heard that there is a pared down subset version to be released as freeware
for gamers sometime this fall. It would allow you to create objects for games
such as Motocross madness 2 ,etc. As long as you created objects not for profit
there would be no royalty considerations.

There's another 3D program available as well, as freeware (beer &
speech). It's available for SGI, Sun, FreeBSD, Linux, BeOS, and yes, it
does Windoze as well. The URL: http://www.blender.nl/download/index.php
Good Luck.

Is this what we're talking about?
Now, there's demos and then there's demoz...
There is a new freeware version of Max coming out, called gMax and its
purpose is to allow people to make their own models for games.
