I think it's just a negotiating ploy on Michael's part. Carl Haas holds a two year option on Mikey, but it appears he is losing the Kmart money and can't pay what Andretti wants. Word from Mid-Ohio is that Williams is willing to pay Chippy part of Michaels salary if an early release for Montoya can be negotiated. Chip and Mike didn't part company as best of friends the last time they worked together, but they're both pros and they both want to win in CART as well as Indy. I could see Haas and Ganassi doing a swap, Vasser for Andretti. Jimmy would probably work for whatever Carl can pay and Mike can finish out his carrer in CART with a top team. Just my take on things...it's going to be a very interesting silly season this year. -- don New GPL Programs for the Converted Tracks: http://www.ianparker1.plus.com/gpl/bapom/

Proving I am not to proud to eat a little crow: Read the following article about Michael Andretti possibly going to the IRL. http://espn.go.com/auto/cart/news/2000/0813/682773.html Personally, I think he will drive for Target next year which will be an Indy. But doing 1/2 the races in IRL for the same money is quite an inducement :-0 -- [email hidden]

but-but-but ya see it's NOT the DRIVERS that make the league....hahahaha jusssst because they might have an Unser and an Andretti welllllll it's really about the ENGINES...ya thats it...the ENGINES Cart has the Ford Cosworth...does the IRL...no...they have an OLDsmobile....CART has a Mercedes/Chevy/Ilmour....does the IRL have that??? NOPE! CART has Hondas and Toyotas....the IRL does have Nissan.... So we ALL can clearly see that while a little known son of a famous driver or two 'may' jump leagues...the real stars ARE and CONTINUE to be the grand engines of CART. -- dave henrie Free the ICR2 source code! Michael's got a major CART influence that seems to hate the IRL...his father. My guess is this is a bargaining ploy with Ganassi; trying to tell him hey I could do this too to race Indy so offer some more cash...also what about the possible Andretti Racing CART team, that's another possiblity. You think Tony's gonna open his wallet again for another CART driver? Jon "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:mzGm5.4088$[email hidden]...
