Just for a minute, I though you were going to say... no, it just doesn't bear
thinking about!

continuing with the story....
In his haste to get back to his car Dan wasn't too careful with his aim and
accidentally soiled the freshly laundered sheets hanging in a nearby
farmyard. As he ran back to his Eagle a furious Belgian housewife raced
after him waving the laundry and cursing the long legged Yank.
And that boys and girls is the story of how yellow flags were introduced to
modern motor racing!

Actually, the term "pit stop" is often used. How appropriate...

ago. They took a Caterham to the 24 hour race on the old nurburgring circuit
(mad or what?), and one of the drivers had been drinking too much coffee to
keep him awake before he got in the car. To avoid elaborating on the story,
he didn't have the same problems with 'wetting his pants' as Gurney did.....
I think I'm quite glad that sims such as GPL aren't COMPLETELY realistic!
The article makes a good read, I could put a transcription on my website if
anyone is interested!
Thanks for the story.

`In Karl Ludvigsen's new photo book on Dan Gurney he tells the story of
Dan drinking copious amounts before his first race in his own
Eagle-Climax - the Belgian GP at Spa in 1966 -- and then getting
desperate for a comfort stop as Americans say when they need a pee. "I
was very thirsty before that race so I consumed quite a bit of water"
said Dan but early in the race the throbbing vibration of the 4-cylinder
Climax created a stress situation. "You'd think you'd be able to wet
your pants, right? Could not do it. Absolutely could not do it. No way.
So the next thing that happens is you say 'If I don't stop, something's
going to burst.' I mean, you're talking about a lot of pain. So you
stop." Gurney rolled to a halt along the Ardnennes trackside, picking
his spot with care. "There weren't many spectators along that section.
Just some people by a farmhouse." Leaving the engine idling, he blocked
a tyre with a rock and stepped aside to relieve himself.'
