If memory servers, that mobo does not use a VIA chipset.
Thanks all the same for the info.

Frick... that is a sad story too :( If I went out and got a V5 and put
it and had these same problems... I'd likely commit hari kari.
I wonder more and more every day if VIA chipsets are just bad mojo.
Then I got one of these i810 chipsets in a box at work... different
dog, different flees... still flee bitten. It's a work box though, so
I haven't tried gaming on it... anyone out there have i810 and hardcore
video?
For hardcore gaming, maybe ya gotta build your own system these days :(
Is there a support group out there for us poor bastards?? LOL
As for the Papy/3dfx thing... I'd doubt it. EA just abandoned 3dfx
too, not sure what the story is. If the future is nVidia... god help
us all.

I finally got around to putting on the D3D patch. Fired it up, rockin'
around Spa havin' a great time... 2nd lap... FREEZE DEAD. Engine is
screaming, 'puter is dead. Hard reset.
Checked everything, checked my blaster tweaks, checked a couple other
games, re-read the D3D readme, tweak core.ini a bit. Fired it up,
rockin' around Spa again... 2nd lap... FREEZE DEAD.
Breakin' my heart. A grown man nearly moved to tears. DOH!!
Really plain Micron system...
Win98SE
GeForce256 (Creative Labs OEM, Creative 5.22 drivers)
P3 733, 256MB RAM
VIA chipset (interestingly, BIOS limits my AGP aperture to 128M)
SBLive GamerX (latest drivers)
I have the all the VIA updates I have ever found in my whole life
I have, over the past couple months, read the GeForce FAQ about 4
billion times, and know it by heart (sadly)
I hate this infernal machine :( Anyone have any ideas?? Either I get
this fixed, or I go back to OpenGL, or I go buy a V5... the latter
seems more likely every day :(
I believe more and more that GeForce(s) don't get along with VIA
chipsets in Socket7 mobo's. Or, I could be wrong.

Hammer.....
Get ready to cry some more. I have a similar machine to yours....but with a
V-5 (about two weeks now). My "story" is also similar to yours (FAQ
memorization, etc.).
Here's the deal: If you want FPS of the V-3 or V-2 12megs in SLI..... era
(it was good)...then you can run no FSAA, 1024 res......and no AI cars.
This gives me a pegged frame rate of 36 fps.....add AI cars and it drops to
the mid 20's....and un-driveable. Change to 800 res......and the frame
only drops to high 20's with AI cars (oh golly gee).
I'm crying right along with you.
We may be witnessing "the end" of GPL as we have known it. If the video
cards of the future won't/don't/can't support GPL's unique texture
engine.....we will be forced to use an "old box"...and run nothing but
GPL.....or say "goodbye" to GPL and move on to the more modern racing sims
where we can use the latest/greatest video and sound cards.
This is not a pleasant choice.....in my opinion.
I'm thinking of building (rebuilding) an old cpu......get my V-2 12megs out
(SLI)...slap a PIII 500 cpu in it (they are cheap now)....and parking this
thing on the floor under my desk....... right next to my current
cpu.......only for running GPL! Maybe that's what we will have to do?
There's no small wonder in the fact Papyrus has said that N-4 (meaning
future Papy sims) won't support Glide. I wonder if there's a parting of the
ways between Papyrus and 3dfx? I wonder if it is really the other way
around? Meaning, GLide won't support Papyrus product(s)?
Somebody is going to be the "loser" here..............and it is us!

Has new technologies the other cards don't
-Advance Vertex Skinning
-KeyFrame Interpolation
-1.5 Gigatexel fill rate
-250mhz core clock
-Pixel Tapestry triple-texture dual-pipeline rendering
-Support for DirectX 8's pixel shader effects
-ATI is also claiming full-scene anti-aliasing support as well as

I have had very good results with a V5 and GPL. The only negative right
now is the fact 2xfsaa doesn't work in racing conditions with the Glide
graphics. 4xfsaa does bring the framerate down, I'll agree, but at 8x6 and
4x the screen is very clean, plus I can finally read what some of those
multiplayer messages are.
I have found I "prefer" the d3d graphics with 2x fsaa. I get faster frame
rates at a larger screen 10x7 usually with little or no loss of fps. I've
found the
slider in the game and the level of detail slider included in the latest
3dfx drivers can make a big difference.
And remember there is a hi rez bug with the V5 that sounds confusing. The
single chip option is often faster than the 2chip high performance setting
especially as the screen resolutions go up. Have fun....
