It's a point of view. But not one I share - despite its limitations, I
wouldn't even consider playing GPL with a non-FF wheel now. THe
feedback you get, while nowhere near realistic, is incredibly useful.

No idea. :-) I've got the Microsoft, and have never regretted it. Apart
from the wheel cover being held on with tennis racquet grip (replacing
Sellotape - thanks Colin), it's handling as well as ever. And the
pedals are *far* better than Logitech's nasty efforts. Rule One: do NOT
buy a wheel you haven't tested (or at least can take back) - these
things are tremendously subjective.

I have an ActLabs Force RS and I love it. I haven't had any problems in any
of the games I've played with it. (N3, GPL, SCGT, NHeat)
Another cool feature is the cartridge system. I can only image that when
the XBox comes out, I'll need a steering wheel for it. Instead of having to
buy a new system, I'll only have to buy the $20-$30 cartridge (that is if
Act supports XBox).
I also recently got my shifter and it's a very nice addition.
The steering wheel is also VERY strong. I think I'll rip my desk apart
before I would break the wheel itself.
There is, however, a notchy feeling to the wheel that, once I used it
enough, I overlook now. This is due to the belt driven force.
www.slottweak.com has some modifications that can help with the little
problems as well as suggested settings.
I'm very happy with mine.

Logitech Formula Force Digital Wheel
Act Labs Force RS Racing System with RS Shifter
Microsoft FF
Guillemot's Ferrari FF wheels
I'm almost for I'm not going to get Act Labs (I've heard it has problems
with games). I'm eyeing the Ferrari FF wheel. Good choice?
Now, for the video cards. I already knew that I was going to get a
Geforce or a Voodoo card. Now this new ATI Radeon comes into picture. I
was thinking about getting a Voodoo 5 6000, when it comes out.
Anyone got a review or preview on the ATI Radeon, or a article that
compares the three?
Thanks
Paul
Another subjective opinion :) Wouldn't choose Microsoft because it causes
heavy cpu load, though I think it has some decent pedals, but I didn't like
the gear levers, 'cause they are just buttons with very little throw.
Now otherhand the Ferrari wheel has decent pedals, isn't cpu hungry, comes
with usb or serial connection, easy to install and stays installed, strong
3lbs motor, seperate gear stick, and overall a nice wheel.
I have played with the MS FF wheel and out of these two ( I was considering
the ACT Labs wheel too) I'm very happy to choose the Ferrari.

I also have the Force RS & shifter, and have not had any problems with game
compatibility.
My only complaints (and they're minor) is the slightly notchy feel (probably
due to the notched belt). The pedal action is not real smooth. And I've
had some trouble with the shifter paddles sticking. Should also mention
that the tech support at ActLabs is very good.

Because in a simulation environment bereft of any tactile cues besides
visual and aureal, I'll take any feedback I can get as long as it's
consistent and can be comprehended (short of being thumped on the head
or something similar...). I don't even care if it's particularly
accurate to real life, I just want more information about what the car
is doing. This may be a personal shortcoming based in actual racing
experience, I can't say for certain.

as far as i know, ferrari wheel doesnt support separate axis for
brake/gas ie can either brake or accelerate, not both at once. having
separate axis comes in handy in gpl, particularly during trail
braking... actlabs supports it, i think logitech does, and i dont
know about microsoft...i have actlabs force rs, and it does have a
notchy feel at first, but it does go away after some use.. pedals you
may have to modify to make them feel "right" (different for everyone).
check out slottweak.com for cool mods for actlabs..
have fun

Before you buy.
Wrong, Guillemot's Ferrari FF wheel does support split axis for gas/brake.

easy.
