Plug the ac cord into a strip outlet with an on/off switch. Keep the switch
off until you want to use the wheel.

My friend has a Logitech Wingman Formula Force. Every time Windows
starts, the steering wheel thrashes back and forth, left and right,
calibrating its extents, I guess - even if no one's going to play a game
with it yet. Isn't there a way to stop this from happening? It can be
really annoying.
Is it the loading of the Profiler software at startup that initiates the
calibration? If so, it would be nicer to still have the option of
having it load without calibrating the wheel very time.
If that won't work, is there a way in the software to disable it from
loading at startup? Or would we have to "force" it to stop loading
using Windows 98's System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) or
editing the registry?
Thanks very much.

Uncheck the auto-calibration box under game-controller properties. You'll
need to manually calibrate it before playing on the test screen by moving
the controls back and forth.

Also, unplug it when you are not using it...

first time she came down to read email and the wheel started moving by
itself.
My son's friends thought the computer was possesed. The powercord that
plugs into the pedals came partially loose so the wheel would reset every
time I bumped the pedals, or my dog did or somebody slammed a door....etc..
It was great...folks who didn't know what to suspect would practically jump
outta the chair to get away from the 'magic' wheel.
