Here we go then
That's old news, Marc. We've been saying 8 since we started talking about
Heat. We put 16 in for LAN at the tail end of the product, but that's the
only news.

But the fact is theres been alot of speculation around here about the
numbers able to multiplay over the Net and most seem to think that 8
just won't cut it.
I on the other hand would rather see 8 implemented properly than 20
half arsed

If you have gpl, download this:

m/legends/replays/racing/POST_Spa_Pass4.zip 484KB
View it from my cockpit if you like, then tell me we needed more people for
an exciting race....

Of course there's always Kali, which with IPX, could attempt the
limit.

What would people rather have do you think? 8 on a well implemnted
Multiplay session or the possibility of 20 players with it perhaps not
being quite so well executed? Just curious

I do all the time and
am in a league with 18 other people. We race all the time with no real warp
problems. If 32 people have great pings to the server, nascar 3 would handle
it so it is possible.

No, YOU TWO don't. You seem to be of similar skill. However, I noticed that
your previous race laps were 3:21 and 3:22. That's more than two seconds
faster than my PB! So when I race online, I end up circulating the track by
myself, seeing other cars only when I pass a car that crashed, or when I get
lapped. The number of online races where I've actually had someone to RACE
with is less than 10, and probably less than 5...

Yeah, but... You need two drivers of relatively equally matched
skills to have a good race. Even when you have that, sometimes you
get separated (and never get reunited). By having more cars, you have
a greater chance of finding a good "running mate" and having a better
racing experience.

Sometimes long ago in VROC when people dropped off from practice at the Ring, we
ended up with just two drivers for the race. No problem, if the other guy loses
it and is left behind the other guy just slows down to let him catch, and only
real passes count (no spins, pushing out or such that usually decide most VROC
races). Must have been the most exciting race I ever had even if it wasn't a

Vintook, I'm begging you... PLEASE take a look at the postings that we've
been making regarding 3D physics as well as broadband. 3D is a whole new
world, and broadband is only half of the equation that's necessary to make
multiplayer work. Don't just cling to the "N3 does it so any other came
should be able to" misconception. Come up to speed on what the real issues
are & the published facts before trying to come off as an expert.
Sorry to sound harsh, but people expounding their "expert" views without all
the facts is a disservice to everyone.
