Hello fellow racesim-fans,
here in Germany we get to hear nothing about Nascar Heat.
How good is it ?
Can you compare it to NASCAR 3 or is it more like an
Action-Game ?
Since I do have to pay much for my online-time,
i would like to know up-front if I should bother downloading
the Demo ( where can I get it, by the way ?)
Thank you in advance,
Christoph.

Its a very good game but you won't get the best out of it unless you have
some sort of super-computer.

I have a Celeron 300 and a Voodoo 3500 and
I get a very smooth framerate, with full effects and details and one
notch of draw distance.
It's shocking how smooth it is compared to how much eye-candy you
get...

Just read all the posts about NH here on RAS, that will give you a
fairly good impression how good this game is, judged by the demo.
And it's g-o-o-d !!!

You can see the edges of
things like the top of the wall and around the side windows of the cars look a
lot smoother on the left. I notice when playing UT the FSAA is not as important
to the image as objects move around too fast to notice, but for going around a
race track, it is a lot more pleasing to not see the jagged lines of the walls
and fences and objects that go out in the distance.
BTW I have not seen much visual damage in NH. Is there a setting for it or do
you not see parts wrinkle or break off?

Visible damage: Yes, in your options.cfg there is a setting for vertex_damage, it's
set to no by default as it is unoptimized and unsupported and causes a severe hit
on loading track times (2-10 mins reported, usually about 2 mins on my PIII650).

Not necessarily. I only have a K63-400, and it seems to run pretty smoothly.
This same system lags with F1 2K. I haven't run FRAPS to see actual frame
rate, though.

Well I'd go on about the lack of high resolutions but I wont open that can
