I find there are quite number of shortcomings in this game. The lack of
compatibility with the V4 wheel is one, but there are so many others.
For example, why are we stuck with the rev. limiter in the pits? I should
choose to put it on or off myself, like in F1 2000. Or why does why car
survive relavely high speed crashes when a real F1 would come back to the
pits for much less (I drive Ace with full realism)? Or why don't I hear
other cars? Why isn't there isntant replays, like in GPL? Or again, when I
start a race, why don't I really control the start? Meaning, I keep it in
first gear, full throttle, but the car only springs foward when the red
lights turn off.
I like the game. But I would like it much more if it was a finish product...
Zen
Add to that the poor AI ( cars don't "see" when alongside) and the stupid
occupancy thing (come on, only 25FPS max) which means you can't compare
hotlaps and the unrealistic black flag system. There's also a bug that means
that sometimes your telelmetry is not recorded which really pisses me off
when i've just put in a good lap.
It's a great game and I still love it but there are some glaring and very
annoying problems which should have been fixed in the four years that Geoff
has been working on it.

All of your "issues" are design features of the game.
