Tom, thanks for your offer to help.
1. I am not sure if my NASCAR Pro is analog or digital. How do you tell?
The wheel is plugged in to my sound card.
2. Yes, it calibrates(or fails to) in Game Controllers as well as GPL.
3. I deleted the wheel, and reinstalled software.
4. Direct X 7.0
5. In DXDiag, under the input tab, in notes, it says " the file TMPRW.vxd is
a beta version, and may not be supported."
6. GPL is the only racing sim I have that supports dual axis.
7. This is only a problem after the reinstall on W98. The wheel was
functioning perfectly before. I had calibrated it normally man times.

Controllers?
you'll
After reloading W98 to cure a video problem, my Nascar Pro has a problem in
dual axis mode. When calibrating the wheel in either W98, or GPL, the brake
goes to full travel in only the first 1/4 inch of pedal. The gas, and the
wheel calibrate ok. In combined mode, the brake calibrates as normal, using
the full 2-3 inches of travel. Yes, I have reloaded the wheel.

Scott:
I think I can help you....as can several others here. But, we'd need more
information as follows:
1) NASCAR Pro (analogue or digital)?
a. If "digital"...what port are you using (game port on sound card
or USB)?
b. If "analogue" did you reinstall your sound card drivers too?
2) Does it also calibrate/test like this in Control Panel/Game Controllers?
3) Did you reinstall the TM controller software (drivers) after the Win98
reinstall?
4) What version of DX are you running...and did you also reinstall that
after the Win98 reinstall?
5) Does, DXDiag show any "registry" problems with your wheel, or WHQL
certification problems with the "input device" driver?
6) Does it do this in all your racing sim programs (assume you have more
than just GPL) too?
If you can "narrow the field" down for us here a little bit, I'm sure you'll
get the solution.
Regards,
Tom

TM NASPro digital = four buttons on the wheel spokes...and shift paddles as
well as a separate shifter. It's USB or "game port = analogue" capable. If
it doesn't "calibrate" in Win98 control panel/Game Controllers...then it is
not installed properly in the first place. Make sure there is no other
"controller" listed in "Game Controllers" ...if there is, delete both (or
all of them...including the TM NASPro wheel)...then choose "Add" near the
bottom of the screen and re-designate the TM NASPro wheel.....then go into
the calibration tab and calibrate your wheel again.
The version of DX you should use is DX7.0a (you may have this version
anyway...and just don't know it)....you can check this by comparing the file
name for your DX program "setup" executable with the correct one for DX7.0a
on the MS website. On the "tmprw.vxd" file....try doing a file search and
see where this file is stored on your c:\...tree. This sure seems familiar
in name to a file used for the NAS Pro "Digital" wheel....not the
analogue....but I could be wrong. Nope, probably not....I just did a "Find
File" search on my box and its non-existent on my computer (NASPro Digital
wheel). Is the TM driver you are using off the CD...or downloaded from TM's
website? You may have answered this already in an earlier
email.........sorry! How are you setting your "wheel" to dual axis? That
will tell us which wheel you have for sure.
On the "reinstall" of Win98....what do you mean exactly? Is it a fresh
reinstall after deleting Win98 from your system, reformatting the hard
driver, etc.? Or did you do an "overwrite" only of corrupted files? Also,
what "event" happened on your computer that prompted this reinstall of
win98? That could have more of a relation to your wheel suddenly not
working than the reinstall of win98 itself does! Also, within GPL UI
screens...is your mouse behaving normally? After the win98 reinstall...did
you also reinstall GPL (you would need to)...and if so, did you remember to
reinstall the new GPL install with the 1.2.0.1 (I think that is the number)
patch from Papy too? I'd also suggest you set the wheel on "combined"
axis...and check its operation within another simulation. But, that's
probably a real "long-shot" if the wheel is not calibrating in Win98 "Game
Controllers"
Ok..back to your computer to try a few more "troubleshooting" tasks
mentioned here. Isn't this sim racing stuff just too much fun? .....lol,

Sorry, been away for a day. Had a keyboard/spill meltdown.
My Nascar Pro is analog.
It is the only controller in Game Controllers. I switch back and forth with
my joystick(or my son does:)all the time and am very familiar with that.
I have Direct X 7.0a
The tmprw.vxd is listed under C:\windows\system
The TM drivers were loaded off the normal install of the CD.
The wheel is being set to dual axis with the switch on the side of the
pedals.
The wheel works fine and calibrates ok under combined mode. The brake
calibrates on screen in close resemblence to actual pedal travel, unlike in
seperate mode when I get full travel on screen with only 1\2" of actual
pedal travel. But I guess that's where I started with this problem.
As far as background on what caused this, it started with a gift from my son
of "Test Drive LeMans". I couldn't hurt his feelings and tell him I was
"above" that game, so I installed it. It of course didn't work, & in
troubleshooting, I downloaded the latest drivers for my Monster 3dll video
card(upgrading soon) from the Diamond website. All was well with "Test Drive
Lemans", but it screwed up my reason for living, GPL. Here is where I
exceded my knowledge level. I tried to update the drivers for the Video Card
with the CD. On the restart, Windows froze. I tried loading W98 off the CD,
but it would get only 13% thruough, then couldn't find a file(can't remember
which). After 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft, I took it back to where I
bought it, they said they would reload W98, and when I picked it up, it
worked fine with the exception of the wheel. No I have not reloaded GPL.
PHEW!
Sorry to be so long winded, but you asked!
Thanks again for the offer to help.
