LOL! Good to hear that I'm not the only one having trouble stringing together a series of good laps at the Ring!! ;-) -- JB In article <Icxo5.1347$[email hidden]>, "Roger Squires" <[email hidden]> wrote: > >But for some > > reason I can't seem to string 2 laps together. > > Just a gentle suggestion: stick with one lap! Is it possible to move the start point of a *race* in GPL (not the pit box but the starting grid)? I have been using Roger Squires idea of following the AI around the Ring to learn the track. But for some reason I can't seen to string 2 laps together. Since I only seem to be good for 1 lap I could use the hack that moves the pits to Antoniusbusche so I'd have warm tires and be up to speed by the start but this is only good for training, so no AI to follow. If it were possible to start the race at Antoniusbusche then I'd be able to have both. Is it simply a matter of editing the grid positions in the track.ini so the grid forms at Antoniusbusche? Even if the starter was still at the line I'd only have to wait for the AI cars to move and then I'd have all of Antoniusbusche to draft them. Before I start mucking about with it, has anyone tried this ? -- Ken MacKay Halifax, Canada GPL Handicap +86.02

I've been looking at a two-lap race of mine with GPLAnalyzer (cool program) and it looks like the flying start of the second lap accounts for about 4seconds, with a few seconds more gained later in the track. So assuming you're consistent there's not much to be gained running two laps anyway. I think the warm tires thing is nothing to worry about at our level. What *is* valuable is practising starts and pushing to keep on the ai's tail all the way to the flugplatz straight and beyond, and repeating it until you're good at it. I'm pretty sure you get credit for the first lap of a race if you quit after the pit board comes up in the pit area, so there's no shame in restarting the race if the ai has left you behind. I have yet to try the RingTrainer, but it might be good for practising sections farther along in the track. If you're like me and restart the race after a wreck, you see the front half of the track more than the back half. I'm sure I lose quite a bit of time on just the turn before the final straight, just from hardly ever seeing it. :) rms [email hidden]
