Hi,
I'd like to conduct a completely unscientific poll for my own evil
purposes. The poll question is in the subject header. My response: yes.
Bendito;
Poll: should racing sims allow saving during a race?
Bendito ran an informal yes-or-no poll on mid-race saves. Most respondents answered yes, at least as an option, while a minority said no on realism grounds; suggestions included allowing saves only in easier modes, in the pits or with a one-time reload to prevent abuse.

Sorry, I should have specified. Don't give me your reasons. Just yes or
no.

My response: yes
My opinion: it doesn't matter

It depends on the sim and how detailed it is. I guess since there is no
pause or save feature in real life I would have to say no.

I would have a 'realistic' mode, where save *and pause* is disabled, and
an 'arcade' mode with pause and save. My answer: No, or both

Only in the "lower-difficulty" modes, IMHO. If the sim's any good (AND
the piloto!), by the time you're racing at the "Ace" level, you
shouldn't have to save races. I *do* think it's helpful when you're at
the low end of the learning curve, though...

That is a fair argument, but otoh, Perhaps a few multi-millionaires who could
afford to race in there series do not do so becuase they don't have the time
to spare. In which case, it's fair to say that deserve the use of a save game.
I guess what i'm tryign to say, is that a save game feature is a form of help
you can choose to use or not. It is not forced upon you. It in no way detracts
from a piece of code being a simulation or not.
If some monkey wants to save the game every 2nd corner, then that's his
choice. It doesn't detract from the sim- only the user.
So Yes, a save game is a pratical and useful addition for those of us who like
to race long distances, but cannot always find a 2 hour wedge to do it in.

If the races last more than 10-20 minutes then yes.

Hmmmm... Yes
It still all depends on the situation. An answer can't be categorical.
Some forms of motorsports could help if they had a save-game feature, but it
all goes into the philosophy of the development team and how much time they
have to spent on such feature.
I mean if WSC didn't have a save-game feature for endurance race it would be
a MAJOR problem, but not if Sprint Cars didn't have one. Motorsports where
races are longer than average SHOULD have save game features.

Yes. I personally don't need a savegame feature, but I understand that
there are others who unlike myself would appreciate there being one.
