I'm looking to buy a FF wheel and I noticed recently the GP version of
logitech's formula force has been released. It's a little cheaper than
the previous wheel and is a little larger in diameter. When I checked
the logitech site they only have the Formula GP listed, not the FF
version. The FF version is apparently selling now (buy.com), does
anyone have this wheel or know any of the differences between this and
the older model?

Before you buy.

Man that sucks...I've been a fan of Logitech for a long time, keyboards,
mice (mouses?), two LWFFs, joysticks. I saw the new wheels at Fry's
yesterday and I can't believe they would replace the LWFF and the LWF with
these plastic toys. Hell, my old TM GP1 feels better than the new WFGP, and
the desk clamp actually works! I hope this isn't the direction the rest of
the company is taking.

Yes I bought one - took it out of the box and put it back in the box to take
back. I used a friends original FF before and this wheel is shyt compared to
it.
Wheel is now plastic with only a small area of hard red rubber covering
(almost identical to MS FF)
Buttons are not as well placed.
Clamps ARE REALLY BAD - this is the main reason its going back. Small "L"
clamp replace the larger
"C" clamps they used before. L is so small it has less than a 1/2 to grip on
to desk and then it only holds down the very front of unit. So when you put
weight on the wheel the clamp acts as a pivot and allows the unit to wobble
with the rear lifting off the desk. You can basically wobble it off your
desk without ever losening the clamps.
Wheel still feels belt driven to me but someone said its gear driven?
Pedals have stronger springs but are still made of same single piece of
molded grey plastic
Pedal unit is not as flat and angles up in back so pedals can move more like
a real pedal rather than straight down as the original did.
Pedals, USB and power all plug into the wheel unit.
Sorry - I didn't want to install the s/w because I know its going back no
matter how great the FF is I wouldn't be able to keep it on my desk.
