Is anyone familiar with this sim? I saw it in an online store and later
went back to get but was gone. I have looked several places for it but
no luck. I believe Microsoft put it out but even their web site had no
listing. It was a race sim set back during to glory days of the 1930's
with tracks in different parts of the world,( germany, italy etc.)
Does, at least did this sim exist, or did I dream the whole thing?
Thanks,
Tim

Really nice idea, really horrid driving model (IMHO)...

It was published originally by Microprose and then by
Hasbro. While it has a poor reputation in this newsgroup ("It's no
GPL" <g>), I've actually found it to be quite enjoyable. AFAIK, it
was never released in the United States. There is a demo available
which provides a good representation of the game. You can find the
demo here:

And if you decide to pick up a copy, it's available here:

shipping from the UK in late September), it would be cheaper to order
it from Software First. Their service is great and the shipping is
modest. But before spending a dime on it, try the demo. SoS demands
LOTS of resources.

in the area of fluid framerates. I read a brief review where they made a
point to say they hated the PC version, but were pleasantly surprised by the
DC version.

Spirit of Speed 1937, I bought this by accident, I was meant
to by GPL, but for some brain fade reason I bought SoS, and
was greatly dissapointed...its awful really - a bad physics model.
Considering it is a microprose game, I am very dissapointed,
played once and never again. Oh well. I got GPL 3 weeks ago,
and love it
