Yes, force feedback. <grin> "Zeke Varg" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:k0Oo5.2852$[email hidden]... > Is there any difference between Microsofts FF-wheel and non-FF wheel > (except , of course the Force Feedback)?????? > >

Is there any difference between Microsofts FF-wheel and non-FF wheel (except , of course the Force Feedback)??????

I have the one without force feedback and it has a center detent. I went to the store to try the one with force feedback and it seems to me it doesn't have the center detent. Hmmm... Rubber Grips :) To the above: More buttons? are you counting the extra *1* to turn FF on and off. . As the box says its very precise, easy clamping, and other features but that detent makes it a piece of CRAP. I would recommend you not to buy it. For me is imposible to go below 1.30s in GPL with it. Just cant make it go straight. After various try out of wheels (TM Nascar, Mad Catz Andretti, MSPreciscion, and so on) I found an used T2 and modified for split pedals, waiting to see what to buy. Thinking on a Logitech, but cant decide between FF or nonFF Luck lito Caracas, Venezuela * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping. My guess is the spindle is D-shaped, and/or there is some sort of plastic ring which locks it on the right and left extremes, and "detents" it in the middle. Perhaps the plastic ring could be modified or replaced? -- Doug Appleyard "Got us a Dirt Track Date, demolition derby figure 8" -- Southern Culture On The Skids Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

I have had both logitechs and would really reccommend them....really nice wheel....some people have a problem with the pedals though Ash "lito" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I have that wheel and was thinking about the same thing. It's the only thing i don't like about the wheel. Let's test it on your wheel. :-) -- Nos
In article <M5np5.55904$[email hidden]>, "Terry Connors" <[email hidden]> wrote: > I have it too and have been considering it. =) > Okay, here is a brief report on my aborted attempt to do this. If you use a flashlight and peer into the unit through the ventilation slots, you can see what implements the detent. It looks like two heavy rubber bands on each side of the spindle. When the wheel is centered, they are slack. When turned to the extreme, they provide resistance (one for each direction). So that's why it gets progressively harder as you turn the wheel to the extremes, and why it snaps back to the center. These rubber bands do not implement the left and right locks; this is done by a plastic disc around the spindle directly behind the wheel itself. So I'm thinking all I have to do is open the unit up and hopefully unhook the rubber bands (or at worst cut them - but I would hate to do this since I couldn't reattach them if the results were unsatisfying). I unscrewed the plate that holds on the clamp. 12 screws. The plate comes right off and the clamp lifts outs. I set it aside. Then I unscrew the four screws holding the wheel housing's base plate (the one with the rubber pads). (I hope there are no screws hidden under the pads, since I would hate to peel them off, then have to re-attach with krazy glue). Does the base plate lift off? Noooooo, it is snapped in something fierce. It appears to be snapped in where the USB cable exits the unit. I think you hook it in there, then press it into place. Hard. As you do, there is a lip which fits into the area below the clamp plate, and it snaps down over 4 or 6 screw "receptors". So I think you have to pry the lip up, over the screw receptors, and then pop the unit open. I pried as hard as I could without getting to the point where something breaks, but I could only get the base plate open a half inch or so. So either you have to really yank on it, or there are screws under the rubber pads, or it snaps in so hard that it doesn't come open again without breaking. So I gave up. I put it back together and it still works (whew!). There are two screws on the base plate that won't go back in since I messed up their alignment with their receptors, with all that prying. However, due to the (as yet unseen) tabs snapping the base plate to the upper half-dome of the housing, the unit stays together as if the screws were there. So I'm not much of a hardware type. Maybe someone else will have better luck with this. I guess I will just use the wheel for a while and eventually forget about the detent; I'll just get used to it. If anyone else tries this please let me know how it goes. -- Doug Appleyard "Got us a Dirt Track Date, demolition derby figure 8" -- Southern Culture On The Skids Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

By detent,do you mean a snappy return to center.I am looking for a wheel that is very hard to get moving in either direction from the straight position. On Thu, 24 Aug 2000 17:43:48 GMT, Doug Appleyard <[email hidden]> wrote:
