SoS was visually nice, but the physics were WAY too arcade-like --
the "physics" in the earlier Need For Speed games is actually better,
for the most part. You might look around for a demo -- I have a copy
of it, but I don't remember where I downloaded it (check
www.3dfiles.com and www.hotgames.com).
As for F12000, it was done by the same people who did SCGT -- VERY good
F1 game, IMO. I have both it and GP3, and I would have to say that
F12000 is more in-line with GPL-type physics, while GP3 just kind of
leaves me cold. F12000 is hardware-intensive, so be prepared to make
concessions like turning off graphics details (smoke, particles, and
mirrors) to get a good framerate unless you have a 600+ MHz machine.
It is very playable on my K6-2 400 system, but I've had to tweak the
graphics a bit. It still looks VERY good, though, so I'm a pretty big
fan of this one.
As for the Eidos F1 game -- F1 World Grand Prix, by Lankhor -- I find
the graphics to be EXCELLENT, and the gameplay reminds me a lot of GP2,
believe it or not. The physics lean towards "arcade," but it's still a
blast to, well, blast around the tracks, mainly because they're so
gorgeous. I saw this for $19 today, which makes it a bargain worth
considering, IMO.
Hope this helps.

Is anyone familiar with this sim? I saw it on some time ago but have
been unable to find every since. Did I dream this od did (does) this sim
really exist? It is set during the halcyon days of the 1930's and has
tracks from throughout Europe. I believe Microsoft put it out but their
web site has no mention of it.
I would also like to know if the F1 2000 game is put out by
Eidos. I believe that they also put one for 1999 but I wasn't that
impressed with it. Is it from the same company or something completely
different? Is it worth taking a look at?
Thanks
tim
IMHO:-
FOR:
The tracks are gorgeous!
The cars look beautiful!
AGAINST:
The car physics are total crap!
The AI is total crap!
avoid like the plague! (unless you want to picnic and enjoy the scenery)

Any chance of you coming up with a 'steering tweak' for that one, like the Indy
game? :)

That's ANOTHER game where the demo turned me off. I can't remember which parts
pissed me off the most for argument's sake, though. Is that the one where the
car spins VERY easily?

I fired up the demo again tonight, and it was indeed "spin city,"
Eldred. Plus, it uses info overlays rather than real cockpit displays,
and the in-cockpit view features a TINY steering wheel with no info.
Still, the tracks are very nice to look at. The Lankhor folks need to
take what they've got and create a killer arcade-oriented game, or
something like NFSPU. They've got the basis for something fun, and
F1WGP might appeal to the casual F1 fan, but that's a crowded market
now with GP3 out.

I figure it might have a couple of bucks worth of fun in it if it is not so
horrid that can't even tolerate it after the first corner (the demo).
Thanks for any info!

SoS is being rereleased for the PC this September, but, AFAIK, only in
the UK. You can pick up a copy for $14.00 (USD) plus modest (and
quick) shipping from Software First. (www.softwarefirst.com)
