NH- less texture detail with >16 cars

In the full version if I use a field size of more than 16 cars, the texture detail is automatically lowered. This is most noticeable with the dash in the in-car view. This is on a V5 5500. Just wondering if this is the same for others with different video cards? Kyle

I noticed less texure also. My frame rates are terrible with a full field ! I have a 366 celeron O/C to 550, 128mb ram Voodoo3 2000 and its a slide show at 800/600 with a full field my detail is only at half and my effects are at half also, draw ahead at none. I have a 566 celery OC'd to 873 and with my voodoo3 3000 I run a full field with low res cars with no slowdown. The benchmark gives me about 41 fps. Ya time for a upgrade maybe a Celeron 600 and try for 900. Dennis

Guess I now understand why the demo was limited to 16 cars... Absolutely nothing to do with keeping the demo file small. Strangely, enough Randy, an option of 1024x768 is an option in W2K (Voodoo3) I've run it looks great but not enough cpu for me until the upgrade. For the hell of it, I booted to W98 and ran 800/600 to see what my W2K overhead was and I get 2.5 fps more in W98. W2K is a great OS but does it being a resource hog. > Very POed about the 800x600 limit with V3, though. Looks like crapcompared > to 1024x768 in N3 > -- >

In game is MUCH slower than benchmark. I run 40-50 benchmark and 20-30 in game with a full field and various graphics configs. -- Joe Marques Please remove "NO SPAM" to e-mail me. I have no idea... The only Papyrus demo I have ever played was GPL, which had no AI drivers. Sorry... I don't know what your point is. My point is that I believe the NH demo was limited to 16 cars because including any more would have showcased the graphics "limitation" (less texture detail with >16 cars). If i go more than 22 cars the dash gets all blurry. I'm using a Voodoo 5 also. It really drives me nuts,i'd like to find out if there is a way around this. Jim Kyle Roberts wrote in message ...

The Voodoo5 that we have in our office seems to get ZERO AGP RAM, for no reason... (not just our game, I'm talking in the standard DirectX caps viewer) we've double-checked our aperture, etc., so it must be a system conflict or driver bug--perhaps you're getting the same problem. The Voodoo5 really is supposed to texture from AGP, so that plus the large amount of on-board RAM should be enough to not "derez", unless you have this problem, or very little system RAM.... perhaps also running in 1024 antialiased takes too much VRAM as well... what's 1024x768x4x2x4....32 MB???? yikes... -Dave P. The Voodoo5 does not do AGP texturing. What you see in Directx is correct. -- Nos
