NASCAR Heat AI going five wide at Michigan

An early buyer was surprised to see the AI run five wide at Michigan. Discussion moved to the save-game issue, the cockpit-view movement effect, reports that tyre and fuel wear multipliers also apply to the AI, and a reviewer link offered to someone put off by negative comments.

He made the comment(referring to lack of savegame) "If all you like to do is 100% races, this game is going to try your patience." Are there people in this group that ONLY run 100% races? Just curious. I can DEFINITELY see them wanting a savegame feature... Eldred -- Tiger Stadium R.I.P. 1912-1999 Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPL hcp. +51.31 Never argue with an idiot. I hope in the final release you can dial it up further... being finally able to move the AI slider up a few notches from medium should make a difference. Even with the .cfg set to "hardcore" I find I can quite easily slice through the pack at Daytona, and I was always terrible with Nascar 2 on superspeedways. It only gets interesting at the pointy end of the pack, where you have to work to take the lead and keep it. It's fun, but I'm getting more of a challenge out of GP3. Even at Richmond I find I can take a number of lines into the corners and still have good exit speed. Again, very easy to move through the pack, and only a little more difficult to make that final pass for the lead and make it stick. It's fun, but not as "hard" as "hardcore" would have made me expect, and as I said, I'm all thumbs in a Nascar. Is there anything else to do to the demo to dial it up further? I've turned on the vertex damage and hardcore. The demo also lets you get away with a ridiculous amount of rubbing and bumping. Can you really just lean on the other guy all the way around a corner with no dire consequences? I would expect that if I get too much push going into a corner and slide up into Jeff Gordon, then it's race over for both of us. Stephen

from everything I have read about this game tonight, all my high hopes have washed away, and it sounds like another arcade racer. -- Kevin Anderson [email hidden] --------------------------------------------------- "Kevin Miller" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > 1st race but this seems a bit weird!
You would probably be best to wait a bit before picking up NH to see how all of the problems pan out. It's probably an arcade racer, with some sim effects thrown in to make us happy. It's not a bad game though, some people are over-reacting too soon. It's marginally better then N3. The effect I can't seem to get over is how the screen throws your point of view WAY forward when you brake, and WAY backwards when you gas it. Come on Hasbro! Nascar drivers are strapped into their seats pretty dang hard, they don't fly forward 18" when they hit the brakes LOL. I believe the cockpit moving is supposed to be modeling the movement of the car, not the driver. Atleast it seems better once i started looking at it like that :) On Fri, 25 Aug 2000 04:53:12 GMT, "Terry Connors" <[email hidden]> wrote:

It's probably an arcade racer, with some sim > effects thrown in to make us happy. Some sim effects to make us happy? Come on! Sim effects to *try* to make us happy is like Test Drive Le Mans, adding Le Mans to make us happy, or F1WGP having real tracks, drivers, great graphics, fps, split axis and cool driving views to try to make us happy. At worst, NH is a sim with arcade effects. It's built from the ground up with very good physics and a very good "feel". The car does react real to life, that's why I call it a sim. It also has very realistic tracks, a realistic cockpit, realistic pit crew, pit speed limit, throttle oversteer, brake lockup, and it feels right when you trailbrake, great ff, etc. The only thing I can find "arcade" is that little NASCAR On-board thingie. I think you'll like it if you'll stop looking at the extremely small things to make the game accesable instead of looking at the physics model, and how the car reacts to the world, and you'll be happy. It's not a bad game though, some people > are over-reacting too soon. It's marginally better then N3. I find it useful, but yeah, it's pretty funny :) Especially how on a hard impact you actually go through the windshield :) (slow motion the replay) hehe. Not realistic totally, but gives you more of a feel. Well it's pointless to defend this anymore, most people here I think enjoy the game, I think to the average person it will sell well. But still, it doesn't make sense to me to call it "arcade". Thanks, Alex

Ok, thanks...I bought the game today, so now I can bitch right alongside of you...<g> I do need some info, but I'll put it in a different thread. I think there are people who run predominantly 100% races, I agree with your statement. I'm definitely getting tired of people saying that the people who say they need a save game feature, don't.
