After all these posts about LWFF settings, I had to go back and look at mine and run a few laps at Monza just to check them out. I've been so happy with my wheel that I haven't had any reason to change any settings for months. For what it's worth, here are mine: LWFF on USB Damping - 100.00 Latency - 0.00 Torque - 240.00 Profiler 120/50/110 No Centering Spring Dead Zone set to 0 with DXTweak With these settings I get no spikes, I can easily feel the front end of the car, and get good effects, ie: road surface, curbs, grass, sliding upside down to my doom, all that good stuff<g>. As an experiment, I purposely drove into the Curva Grande too fast and tossed the car in to induce a tank-slapper. There was no oscillation of the wheel, I just let off the throttle a bit, the car straightened up and I was able to drive on without further drama. -- don New GPL Programs for the Converted Tracks: http://www.ianparker1.plus.com/gpl/bapom/

Are you running an asymettric setup Andre? If so, this is normal. Try running a symettric setup, it should not produce any force when going straight. Wilf In article <[email hidden]>, Andre Warringa <[email hidden]> wrote:

Andre, you will notice if you leave your LWFF settings alone and change to a symettric setup that these strange forces will go away. To my way of thinking, GPL is generating these forces becuase of the asymettry. I would expect that the more asymettric you are, the stronger these forces would be. Therefore I have never thought of this as a problem. I just hang on! My settings are: Overall Effects 150% Spring Effects 150% Damper Effect 25% Centering Spring NOT enabled Dual Axis (there is a trick to setting this up) core.ini allow_force_feedback = 1 force_feedback_damping = 20.000000 force_feedback_latency = 0.175000 max_steering_torque = 100.000000 I have a PIII 500, Voodoo 3 3000. Just spent another couple of hours experimenting with the ff settings. I read the articles at Slot's, Eric Cote's and Hine's site, Nunnini also had a lot of info on his site but unfortunately he closed his site. I'm affraid that was the link you're referring too. As I said, I tried a lot of settings, and I get 2 different results: A) I used Slot's settings: damping 5000 latency 0.0045 torque 2800 This gives a fantastic FF. Everything can be felt perfectly, forces are strong and build up nicely in the corners. You really feel what the car is doing. Wonderfull, but with this settings, I have way to many spikes, and when I let my hands of the wheel it rocks to the left and right wildy, even on a straight. B) Alison's settings: damping 5.000000 latency 0.020000 torque 200.000000 (notice the completely different numbers compared to Slot's settings) FF with these settings is average, especially compared to the FF compared with Slot's settings. Driving on the gras can hardly be felt, forces in the corners are not at strong, all in all the forces are quite weak and a lot of little forces that you can feel with Slot's settings can't be felt with these settings. But: The wheel turn perfectly smooth, absolutely no spikes, and the wheel doesn't rock to the left or right. What I want ofcourse is the FF from Slot's settings, but without the rocking and spikes. Since these settings are so completely different it's hard to find the settings to get this result, if it's even possible at all. If anybody has any suggestions, or some other settings to try, help is very much appreciated here. Andre >rms >[email hidden]

But when I try Alison's settings (read my other post in this thread) I don't have the rocking to the left and right and I don't have the spikes... Andre

I played around with the LWFF settings for a couple of hours now. I've found some very good settings in an older RAS post: damping = 3.000 latency = .0125 torque = 80.000 (150%, 0%, 25% in joystick properties) The FF with these settings is fantastic, but when driving on a straight line the wheels wiggles to the left and to the right. Also I have some light spikes ocasionally. Which setting should I change to get rid of these unwanted movements? Andre
Several of us are going through the same annoyances with the Ferrari wheel. It seems that the I-Force based wheels just can't do both. The MS-based wheels, although lacking many of the good features of the Logi and the Ferrari CAN do subtle and smooth feedback at the same time. Marc. In NH my LWFF produces both strong and subtle forces, so it's not the hardware that's the problem I think. More interestingly, someone at RAS mentioned that the wild rocking and spikes only happen on Monza. I tried three other tracks yesterday, The Ring, Spa and WG, and indeed, the rocking was allmost non-existant on these tracks. Still have lots of work to do. I received an email from Slot with some suggestions, some say it has to do with the car setup (ride height to low, the spikes I feel is caused by the car bottoming out) or an asymetrical setup. I'll keep you informed, this FF is interesting stuff... Andre
