If you love GPL, Don, then you might want to consider picking up EA's F1 2000 instead of GP3. With all the patches and upgrades, F12K is right up there with GPL and NH in terms of realism, IMO. I'm not much of a F1 fan myself, but I LOVE turning laps in F12K. In my opinion, if you just want to turn laps and you're not really interested in simulating races and entire seasons, then GP3 would be a waste for you. GP3 does a great job of simulating the overall F1 "experience," but F12K does a better job of simulating the F1 DRIVING experience, IMO. -- JB In article <3pTp5.6216$[email hidden]>, "Don Burnette" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Ok, I know I will want to pick up Nascar Heat, simply because I loveNascar > sims and was somewhat impressed with the demo. Don, Glad to help! The best source I've found for F12K patches is the Blackhole Motorsports site (http://www.bhmotorsports.com/). The 1.09 patch is what you need (it makes a big difference, IMO), and they also have some excellent setups there as well. FYI, I've got an AMD K6-2 400 system with 64 MB of RAM and a 16 MB Voodoo Banshee card, and I'm getting solid 20+ fps frame rates. You definitely want to turn off pitlane objects, turn off smoke and particles, and turn off (or at the very least reduce) the details in the mirrors. All of that should make the game smooth even on your current Celeron system, I would imagine. Also FWIW, the BHMS site has a very nice modified cockpit for F12K that gives it more of a GP2/GP3 type look (you don't look "over" the nose quite so much with this view). Look around their downloads section to find this if you're interested -- it not only looks better (IMO), but this new view also clips a bit of the mirrors off, which enhances the frame rate further. Hope all this helps a bit! -- JB In article <JBUp5.6280$[email hidden]>, "Don Burnette" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Thanks JB, actually I already have F12k, and like it fairly well, only > problem I have with it right now is it is such a graphics hog. However, I am > running a Celeron 300a at 464 mhz, but have a 566 celeron on the waythat > should be here Monday, which I plan on running at 850 mhz on my AbitBH6. > That might make the F12k experience a lot better for me, and based onyour > comments below, I am convinced I should hold off GP3 and revisit F12kwhen > my chip gets here. > Btw, are all the patches and upgrades that I would need availablefrom EA's > sight, or are they third party add ons? Ok, I know I will want to pick up Nascar Heat, simply because I love Nascar sims and was somewhat impressed with the demo. Now that Ed has stated there will be a patch, I will probably pick it up over the next few days. Now, GP3 I am not so sure of. I liked GP2 ok back when it came out, didn't spend as much time on it as I did N1 and N2, but did enjoy what time I did spend with it. I liked ICR2 as well. GPL I love, have had it since it was released, just don't get to spend as much time with it due to my busy shedule and Nascar online racing. I do thoroughly enjoy loading up a track and spending an hour or two getting proficient at it and setting personal bests. Now, my debate is should I get GP3? I have seen many conflicting reports here, and am dissappointed with some things I have been hearing, how it is so much like GP2, which is quite a dated physics model. Would GP3 be worth it to me? I would probably really enjoy it if there was enough of a difference between it and GP2, but am undecided at this point. -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends ICQ# 74084566

Don, I am in the same quandary. I have limited time to spend with simming and GPL takes up most of that time. I liked what I saw of the NH demo (a good marriage between NFS:PU & N3). My thinking sees more lasting enjoyment out of NH (hopefully some decent online racing can be had from it vs. GP3). My fears are that once the "newness" wears off of a polished GP2, GP3 will just sit and gather dust. Where the good things I saw in the NH demo should have me coming back for visits more often as I need a change of pace from GPL (love the battles on the short tracks and road courses). Hopefully NH will tide me over till N4 comes along which will fill the hardcore void till we all get to taste the West Bros. WCS. -- **************************** Michael E. Thanks JB, actually I already have F12k, and like it fairly well, only problem I have with it right now is it is such a graphics hog. However, I am running a Celeron 300a at 464 mhz, but have a 566 celeron on the way that should be here Monday, which I plan on running at 850 mhz on my Abit BH6. That might make the F12k experience a lot better for me, and based on your comments below, I am convinced I should hold off GP3 and revisit F12k when my chip gets here. Btw, are all the patches and upgrades that I would need available from EA's sight, or are they third party add ons? I got the sim right after it hit the shelves, and have not patched it in any way. -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends ICQ# 74084566 <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8o93c0$4fm$[email hidden]... > If you love GPL, Don, then you might want to consider picking up EA's > F1 2000 instead of GP3. Don, I picked up GP3 tonight and have been having a blast so far. I'm no expert on F1 racing or anything, but it just seems to race like a very solid game. Like you, I've been basically racing online N2/N3 races, and some occasional GPL hotlaps. So far, I'm glad I decided to get GP3....i'll comment more after playing it a little more. But just wanted to let you know, in my opinion GP3 seems much better then what some people have been saying about it.
