Re: OMG! The cars flip way too easy in GPL!

Satirical post: cars flip too easily in GPL

Vintook satirised complaints about NASCAR Heat flips by exaggerating GPL's own crash behaviour. Ed Martin of Monster Games joked about save games, ymenard argued GPL flips are at least earned while NASCAR Heat's are not, and others agreed both games' crash dynamics are imperfect.

Come on, Frank -- climb down off the bandwagon and join the rest of us who are standing on solid ground on this issue: It is NOT all that easy to get airborne in NASCAR Heat if YOU drive realistically. Unrealistic maneuvers will do it, but I spent many, MANY laps last night trying to get airborne and flip ON PURPOSE, and I had hard time making it happen. Perhaps I'm not a bad enough driver? Maybe the "drive it like you stole it" ethic helps in this regard? From my point of view, this is as much of a non-issue in NH as it is in GPL. Your mileage may vary, of course. ;-) -- JB In article <uqTp5.309$[email hidden]>, "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote: > "Vintook" <[email hidden]> wrote > > I've been racing NH now for a couple days and everybody seems tohave a > > problem with the cars getting airborne too easy > > Another time, people have difficulties thinking. > > You take the word "flipping" way too vague. I've been racing NH now for a couple days and everybody seems to have a problem with the cars getting airborne too easy. I went back and raced some GPL and WOW! I HIT A GUY GOING ABOUT 30MPH AND FLEW INTO THE AIR FLIPPING AND FLYING! I experimented a little further and WOW! I HIT A HAY BAIL DOING 90MPH AND WENT FLIPPING UP IN THE AIR 100 FEET and THEN I HIT THE GAS AND WENT ROUND THE TRACK SOME MORE! Hmmmm, didn't seem very simulationy to me............ maybe GPL really is an arcade racer? Vintook P.S. yes I did have the realism set to the max in GPL.

You take the word "flipping" way too vague. If you flip in GPL, it's for a darn good reason. Whatever happens after may be unrealistic, but be sure that you clearly merit the flip if you do one. The problem in NH is different than in GPL and for many people a bigger problem than per example other simulations. RC2000 has the same problem like NH. It's not what happens when you flip that is unrealistic, but the reason why you got it airbone. In RC2k, go 5mph over a little bump and you might suddenly find yourself upside-down. In NH, some unrealistic change in the maneuver of the car will throw you into rolls. Touch a curb, rub with a car sideways or hit the exterior walls. Its weird, its so east to get airborne in GPL inthe most unrealistic of circumstances but if you interlock wheels with someone you stop all of a sudden and do not get airborne...go figure...

Nope and thats a problem for GPL always has been....fortunately for GPL Hotlapping is a load of fun....but sure would have been better with a savegame no doubt about it. I hope that HEAT is as much fun in the pure hotlapping mode...certainly the physics are really fun to deal with but I have a feeling that hot lapping an oval just isnt the same as hot lapping the RING.
