Well, after discussion here in regards to whether I should pick up GP3 or
not, I decided to give F12000 another go. I downloaded the 1.09 patch, and
it seems to have really made some improvements. I really like the mip
mapping option, while it didn't necessarily increase my framerates it did
seem to blend the graphics in to a smoother look versus a blocky look. I
also noticed the ai was much better behaved at Monza in a short race I ran
in this morning, although they seem a heck of a lot faster than they were,
could just be the time I layed off the sim.
I think I must have forgotten how good the physics in this sim really were,
and after playing it again I think it will be plenty enough to satisfy my F1
cravings for the time being.
I really look foward to getting my Celeron 566 @850 next week, I'm sure I
will enjoy it even more with the added horsepower over my 300a running at
464.
So I'll have my main love, N3 mulitplayer , for league racing - pick up Heat
for some offline fun here and there, and have F12k to satisfy my F1 cravings
with some GPL thrown in for hot lapping. Plenty to keep me busy until N4 :)

Unless you have the CPU-power, I'm 99.99% sure mip-mapping will
slow-down F12k, at least in full-blown races. I think F12000
(unsupported feature) uses mip-mapping too heavily. Sure wish there
was an F12k file-setting to "tone it down" a bit.
You didn't say what 3d card you use. If Voodoo, 3dfx drivers have an
option to set LOD (level of detail) for D3D/Glide mip-mapping. At its
highest setting, it will add "some" smoothing to F12k. Not nearly as
much as F12k's setting, but probably much easier on frame-rate too.

Now if I could only save a race in progress, I might actually play the game ...

length for the time I know I can spend on it.
