I was in EB today to pick up "NASCAR Heat" finally. Saw "Sprint Car
Racing" on the shelf. Is this the Ratbag game? I couldn't find
Ratbag on the box anywhere. The screen shots on the back looked
horrible, very arcadish and nothing like "Dirt Track Racing". Also, I
thought the title was supposed to be "Dirt Track Racing: Sprint Cars".
If this is the Ratbag release it looks very disappointing.
That is NOT the Ratbag sequel to DTR, which will be titled "Dirt Track
Racing Sprint Cars" when it is released. DTRSC will feature everything
you loved in DTR, plus some nice additions like, oh, replays, for
example.
You won't be disappointed.

unsuspecting consumers into thinking that this is the sister game to
Dirt Track Racing. Most of my sim racing is with the NASCAR racing
game, so I didn't know much about the Dirt Track Racing Game at all.
When I went to buy this game for my dad, I didn't know to look
for "Ratbag" or "Dirt Track Racing" on the box. When I finally got
home and relized what was happening it was too late because I had
already opened the box. (The box has a "rip-off" label like you find
on a TV dinner!) Luckily the store I bought it from was VERY
understanding and gave me store credit for it so I can buy the real
game (when it comes out).
It seems really clear that their logo on the box was designed to look
VERY close to Dirt Track Racing's logo. I couldn't find any
information on the web at Activision's site, or anywhere else
concerning the product. Maybe Ratbag is trying to put a stop to it,
who knows.
All I know is that I probably will never buy anything that has
Activision's name on it again! (Something tells me that's probably not
a big loss for me!)
Supposedly the Ratbag Sprint Car game will be out the first week of
October, should be interesting.

Thanks Ed, glad I didn't plunk down $19.95 for it. The misleading
thing is the title print on the box is almost identical to the print
for "Dirt Track Racing".

I mean they used basically the
same font on the box, and the name is clearly playing off the success of
DTR. Isn't this wrong?
On a seperate note. I have a new game coming out myself. MASCAR:HEAP. I'm
hoping it will be as big a selling as my previous RAKE 3:Area

think they can copyright a font or color scheme, and the name is
different enough, plus "sprint car" is a generic term in itself (as
opposed to "Xerox" or "Kleenex"). At any rate, imitation is the most
sincere form of flattery, and hopefully word will get out that
this "Sprint Cars" game has more in common with "Swamp Buggy Racing"
than with DTR -- which is probably one more reason why Ratbag and
Wizard Works are playing up the "Dirt Track Racing" name in this title
(not just for continuity, but to further help identify the "franchise").
It IS very deceptive packaging, though -- I saw it a couple of days ago
at CompUSA and I thought, "Holy $#!+ -- we're not even done testing it
and Wizard Works has already RELEASED it? WTF?!"

LOL! ROTFPP! Just make sure that you have a "change underwear" option
in the final game, and also that it can run on a Pentium 166 system
with a first-generation Rendition card or the sim community will rake
you over the coals!

There's nothing against them calling a game "Sprint Car Racing" as it
is a generic name.
Anyway, it wouldn't be Ratbag pursuing action, it would be the
publisher, WizardWorks. of course, they are known for making their
own cheap knockoffs. :)
