We're taking a look at both and we're also listening to the other stuff that
people are talking about. I think you can count on it.

Turn damage on....
I'm not explaining how to do this again, it's the only thing which annoys me
about NH - the hidden stuff....

That's more than appreciated Ed, I just hope you can listen to the people
who you need to without them scaring you away with their abuse....

I totally agree with you on this. At Taladega for instance, coming out of turn
two I got pushed around down the back straight, caught air and landed on my
hood skidding on my top until I finally turned over and came to a stop. NO
DAMAGE AND NO YELLOW! What gives! PLEASE fix this with a patch soon. Once
this is done, I can honestly say that this will be the GREATEST RACING SIM
EVER!
A great first effort. A couple of problems (not surprising--even GPL
doesn't have pit stops like it should). But we'll only truly know if MGI
can compete with Papy if we get Papy-style ongoing support. These two items
need to be fixed, can be fixed and should be fixed. Ed, will they be fixed
in the near future? If so, I am sure a happy camper with this one.

I am loving this sim in a big way. Someone else said the cars feel so
"alive" and that is my impression exactly.
I set mine to hardcore mode immediately and haven't even tried the
other modes. I went straight to Bristol night for a 50 lapper, my
favorite scenario from 'other' NASCAR sims. I grew up a few miles
from a NASCAR-sanctioned paved 1/4 mile oval with 50 lap Featherlite
Modified features on Saturday nights, so that's my attempt to capture
that memory at work.
I love the way you can get into a pack of cars and NOT spin out the
second you brush 'door handles' with somone else. You can get pushy
with your bumper, but do much of that and your get a "big hole" in
your radiator. I always start from the back of the pack and turn down
the AI skill because I like working through traffic, but on one of my
50 lappers I was in the lead, one bumper tap away from a hole in the
radiator with 12 laps to go and DE3 breathing down my neck. I had to
thread my way through lots of lap traffic, keeping my nose clean and
keeping that black 3 car behind me. It was edge-of-my-seat exciting.
I won by about 1/2 a car length. Whew!
The Beat the Heat challenges were fun but went by too fast. I can
always go back and get better trophies (I got about 10% gold, 20%
silver and 70% bronze) but I managed to do them all with very little
difficulty. My first hang up was the fuel stop at Phoenix. I had to
do that one about 5 times. I had trouble at North CArolina getting up
to 8th, too, as I recall
What would I fix? I don't care for the sound. The engine sound
itself is OK, but all that noise and hissing and static cover it up.
Maybe it's supposed to be wind noise, I dunno. Haven't turned on the
yellows, so can't comment there. Savegame not an issue. The damage
needs work (see below.) There is obviously a lot of Viper under the
hood here (A sim I love and still play a lot) and VR had a great dmage
model. Maybe there's a future there.
How do we get skins onto the AI cars? I see some folks have painted
the verboten cars already but I havent been able to figure out how to
replace the original paintjobs on those cars, yet. Bravo for the
trucolor textures. My Photoshop filters don't work on indexed color
files and the palette conversion is a PITA.
I like running full fields and get OK frame rate with my setup:
Celeron2/566 OCed to 850
256MEG PC100 RAM
VooDoo3/3000 AGP (no OC)
21" Viewsonic G810 Monitor
SBLive! Value
FPS2000 digital surround spkrs
MSFF
blah blah blah
effects: off
draw distance: halfway
detail: full
high detail cars: yes
But what's the deal with the fuzzy dash? I need to get a new video
card. There might be a V5/5500 in my near future.
Finally, I was able to exploit the, uhhh, odd damage modelling to win
the next to the last Beat the Heat challenge.
As Petty, I was having no luck catching DE in pursuit of my elusive
8th. I was stuck about 1.5 secs behind. With 5 laps to go, I jammed
on my brakes entering turn 1 and turned around. I drove head on into
DE3 at speed, crunching in his nose real good, and pushing my damage
to about 99% radiator, 100% front spoiler and 0% wheels. I quickly
got pointed the right way and resumed driving.
I passed DE, getting back the lap I had just lost and put about 20
seconds on him by the time I got back to the trioval. He pitted and I
kept going. When I came back through the trioval again and then
passed the pit exit he was just exiting, so I took the lead. I
managed to stay about 7-8 seconds in front of him for the remaining a
few laps and won.
Yes, I know that was cheating, but it worked. I promise to go back
and beat him legit. I *was* able to beat Petty as DE in the final
challenge, though. Relentless bugger, he is.

Thanks Ed (and MGI team). Work on yellow first and then damage
(hopefully the 1st will be easier to fix <G>).

It should? Why would you want to make a pit stop in GPL? To change
helmet? There is no tire wear and you have plenty of fuel from the
start.
/petern
how do u turn it on? Are you talking about vertex damage? If so then it will
do the same thing as what he described.

First off let me say thanks for the time you've spent here listening to
others' opinions and thoughts about NH.
But one question. In the patch, will there be added a practice mode in
Multiplayer so that the host can start racing right away and other people
can drop in whenever they want, until the race has started?
Thanks,
Alanb
