I have 2 12MB V2's and it works here, I don't know about the 8MB one.

Hi,
I believe that GP3 doesn't work with an 8MB Voodoo2.
Please convince me I'm wrong. I've tried the patch on
www.grandprix3.com to no avail.
The Voodoo2 card choice is still greyed out on the
graphics menu.
I have exchanged a few email messages with microprose
support, and they are being evasive; and now are telling
me to contact 3dfx support; even though 3D works fine on
my machine with their other games, such as European
Air war. Brilliant. Glad I paid for the geniune software (not).
I am an owner of GP2, and only upgraded to GP3 to get
the 3D support; now to find that it doesn't work on my machine.
I wouldn't have been so upset if the microprose stuff hadn't
been misleading. I would've budgeted to buy a new 3D video
card, and known what I was in for. The fact that I was mislead
into believing that this game would work with my hardware
is what really gets up my nose; and the fact that Microprose
support aren't being remotely useful.
I believe that an 8MB Voodoo2 card has 4MB Video ram,
and 4MB texture ram. I also believe that GP3 requires 8MB
of VIDEO ram, and hence won't work with GP3. I consider
the labelling on the GP3 box to be misleading; and am
thinking about filing a complaint with Australian consumer
protection agencies unless I can be convinced that I
am doing something wrong.
My machine is a Pentium II-300, 128MB ram, 8MB Voodoo
2 (Creative 3D Blaster), Diamond Viper V330.
I tried the game using my dad's Banshee (16MB) and it
worked fine in 3d mode with this card; further promiting
my suspicion that GP3 requires 16MB 3d video cards
(8MB video, 8MB texture).
Can anyone please please please let me know if there is any
way in hell to get this frigging thing to work with my 8MB voodoo 2?
This is a great game; when it works.
Cheers & thanks,
Scott Wallace

If you have the room and can track down a similar brand of V2,
you might want to try SLI..(two cards)

Hi Again,
Well, I thought I should let everyone know that I have GP3 working
with my 8MB Voodoo2 now; no thanks to Microprose support.
Here's how to do it:
Remove all 3D video drivers. Install the 3dfx voodoo2 drivers
on the GP3 CD.
Ignore advice from Microprose support telling you to go to
the vendor site to get drivers.
I have a Creative Voodoo2 card with 8MB ram, and it wouldn't
work with the latest drivers from Creative.
So, once you have got the drivers for 3dfx voodoo2 installed,
(don't use the creative drivers even though your card might
be made by creative); you now need to get the hack off the
www.grandprix3.com web site. This hack includes simple
instructions, but basically what it does is:
This hack has two registry mods. The first convinces gp3
that you have enough ram on your card; and allows you to
make 3D settings. Then you exit GP3, run the second of the
gp3 registry mods which sets the registry back to how much
ram you really have on the video card. You can now run
GP3.
SUMMARY: Ignore the fact you have a creative 3D blaster
card; use the 3DFX Voodoo2 drivers on the GP3 CDROM.
Ignore Microprose tech support when they tell you to get
the latest creative drivers.
Follow the instructions and use the hack/patch from
www.grandprix3.com.
Thanks to all people who responded; and a great big
raspberry to Microprose support.
This worked on a Windows 98 Rel 2 machine, with a creative
3D blaster 2 8MB video card, PII-300, 128MB.
Cheers
Scott.
