I have a CeleronII 533 @800 MHz, and that seems very fast. I need to replace my banshee, and it is too expensive to buy a voodoo 5500, so I am thinking between voodoo3 3000 and GTS MX. I am leaning towards MX, because of T&L that WSC will support, and also some other games like B17, but my main game is GPL, and I am building a system around it. So my question is, with the d3d patch, what would be faster, a voodoo3 3000, or a geforce2 MX. Also, I checked out GPL on a friends tnt2 ultra card with d3d patch, but the rail guards (ancoves) like in turn 3 at the Glen dissapear some 50 meter in from of the car, giving you the illusion they are not there down the track. The whole thing ends up looking differently, you think there is more run of space, but when you come closer there isn't. It seems the mip mapping just filters the rail away. Can that be helped? Hopefuly I could solve it in Nvidia drivers. So, that's the dillema. My targer res is 1024x768, and I would like to have the graphics maxed out and get a good framerate at the starts. So what do you guys think. Thanks! P.S. I also have a BH6 rev 1.5 MB, 128 Mb memory and a SB Live soundcard, with a LWFF wheel plus CH pedals / sweet for GPL

Stay with Glide and the Voodoo! Although with a similar system my GeForce sdr and d3d work fine in 1024 with all eye candy set to on and the detail bias on 2/3, steady 36 fps all around... The starts varied from mid 20's to low 30's... Oliver BEOROCKET Racing: www.beorocket.co.yu "Domagoj Malovic" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8od3r3$biv$[email hidden]...

I have an Athlon 700 running a GeForce DDR with the d3d patch.Works well and looks great with all graphics on and detail @ 50%, but I can only get decent framerates with less than 15 AI cars and Goodwood is jerky at the chicane with no other cars.. I would be interested to know if a Voodoo 3 (2000 or 3000?) would run significantly better (i.e. graphics at max and 19 AI cars) as at 80 quid it would almost be worth it just for GPL. Cheers, Jon. Hi, I'm using a voodoo 3 3000 on a PIII 733 (abit rev2 128 mb) Tried some frame rate tests last night. At Monaco, back of the grid of 19 cars at 1024x768, all details on (including full detail in the mirrors) detail slider 2/3 to the right I get 32 fps at flagfall, with an occassional drop to 27 if I'm involved in a"multi-car". By the first corner it's at 36 and stays there. Same results for a Cel II @750. From what I've heard, the Nvidia cards don't do so well with full details on in the mirrors. Hope this helps Phillip Domagoj Malovic <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8od3r3$biv$[email hidden]...

Consider the GTS for modern stuff AND an old Voodoo2 as a GPL-specific secondary. The V3 isn't appreciably faster that a V2 when running GPL. When I went from a V2 to a V3, GPL performance increased by only a frame or two per sec. GPL will run at 1024x768 on a V2 since it doesn't need memory for a Z buffer. You can get a V2/12M for under $30 on Ebay or ~$40 new. -Greg -- ============ Anti-Spam measures have been taken! Remove the duplicate 'g' and 's' to reply.

EBworld shows the release date for the Vodoo 4-4500 as 9/11. You might think about one of those. Best Wishes, Scott "Domagoj Malovic" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8od3r3$biv$[email hidden]...

A new V4 is being released while the V5 is allready on the market? Good marketing strategy, allmost as good as Sierra's :) Andre

For GPL? Go Voodoo3 use GLIDE. Domagoj Malovic <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8od3r3$biv$[email hidden]...

I'm using V3-3000 not overclocked with glide driver - seems better to me than D3D. CPU is an athlon classic @ 900 MHz, only time I get less than 36fps is at the start of a race, with full 19 AI cars then it only brieffly drops to 25~30 fps, even on Goodwood. CPU helps that last bit... strange a '97 game needs 2000 hardware ;-) Jon Mansfield <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:lkzq5.5200$[email hidden]... > I have an Athlon 700 running a GeForce DDR with the d3d patch.Works welland > looks great with all graphics on and detail @ 50%, but I can only getdecent > framerates with less than 15 AI cars and Goodwood is jerky at the chicane > with no other cars..
