The readme file that came with NH has several lines that are supposed
to be corrections to the manual. Was there supposed to be a manual in
my box? It sure didn't come with one. The only thing in my box was a
yellow piece of paper (I can't remember what is was for) and a CD. The
box was shrink wrapped and bought about an hour after Best Buy opened
their doors with it for the first time. Without a manual I had to go
searching through each menu to get it set up properly (damage, number
of laps, ect). It certainly feels like it wasn't ready to be released
yet.
Without a manual or any installation instructions installing it was
very confusing. Put the disk in and I get a pop-up window with the
options of Play, Setup, Web-site, and something else (Exit or Cancel I
think). I figure, OK no Intall button, lets try Setup. OK now that took
me to the install routine. I chose the minimal installation, but didn't
want a shortcut on my desktop figuring there would be an entry to start
it from my Start folder like every other program I have ever installed.
I was quite surprised that it wasn't there and I had to go searching
around my Hard-drive to find out where it even installed the
configuration files. When I installed it, I didn't get any confirmation
that it installed. All it did was took me back to the initial screen
that I got when I inserted the disk. I could only assume that it
actually installed. The next time I went to play it (disk still in the
drive) I realized that the only way to start it was by going into
Explorer and selecting Nascar Heat from the CD-ROM or by opening and
closing my CD-ROM door so that it would autoplay again. I guess I'll go
and create my own shortcut so I have an easier way to start it the next
time.

You were supposed to receive a manual, call 800-683-5847 tell them.
This is a great game. The physics are dead on and the AI is great
although I have not tested the AI's ability under yellow flag/race
strategy situations. However the manual is pretty poor so you are not
missing alot there.

Thanks, I think I'll call them to get my useless manual so I don't feel
like I was shortchanged:) Talk about quality control!

Thanks for the number, I guess without the manual I wouldn't have known
the phone number. I guess it might have been on their web-site, but I
couldn't find it on the outside of my box.

I can add a couple of things about the AI...
It races hard, but the yellow/pit strategy really sucks. I put on x4
wear and raced at on of the tracks (dega or tona) I think I was up to
12 or 13 laps and I lost it and ran into the side of another car, and
to my disbelief a yellow wa thrown. As we are driving around under
yellow, (I knew I had to pit because at the wear ration I was only
good for 15-16 laps) so I hit the space to pit.... only 3 cars
followed... the remaining cars never pitted.... Well after we go
green, 2 laps I think, all the cars go into pit.... My thought was
wow, that as stupid of them.... Interesting observation....

N2/N3 used to do that, too. I made up MANY places from mis-timed AI stops...

Free the ICR2 source code!
It was almost as if there was a line of code which said,
If (Gasleft>=3laps && Player==Pit && playerpos>=20) then don't pit
till after grren
shrug... I dunno...
