Im going to buy a new computer (Athlon 750) and is wondering if anybody has
tried GPL with a Geforce 2 GTS.
Did it work properly or would perhaps a Voodo 5 be a better configuration.
Maybe there are some link you could direct me to.
Thanks in advance.
(And thank you Papyrus for the best racing simulator ever created, even
though I havent tried GP3 yet... )

Yes, I have a GeForce 2 GTS, and it handles GPL very well. You must have
the Direct3D patch, which you can get from http://www.papy.com I've only
noticed an occasional flickering in the menus, but you can ignore that. Make
sure you download the latest reference drivers.
Bendito;
I have a 64MB Hercules Prophet II on a AMD Thunderbird 800. GPL + Papy's
Direct3D patch = stunning!! The graphics are awesome! You won't be
dissapointed!
Thanks,

patch, and all this under Windows 2000. Have not tried the OpenGL patch lately,
which has higher quality graphics than directx for GPL. I did try OpenGL with
previous nvidia drivers and it locked up with Windows 2000, okay with Windows 98. I
don't have a voodoo5 to compare against, but the OpenGL/nvidia combo was nicer
looking than the voodoo3 3000/glide combo. It seems to me that directx/GeForce2 GTS
is about the same as voodoo3 3000/glide for graphics quality. With the 1GHz P3, I
get 36fps everywhere so the performance of the graphics card is not really a big
factor.

there's no doubt that the V5 produces the higher frame rates in the most
demanding of conditions. I would qualify that statement though by saying
that *both* cards run the game at the full 36fps 98% of the time (very
important to realize this).
But for comparison, sat on the grid at Monza with 19 opponents, from the
in-car view, in 1024*768, with all details turned on, and the detail slider
bar on full, the V5 managed 26/27 fps and the GeForce 2 manages 21/22 fps.
Just for interest, a V3 also managed 26/27 fps. That's all on a P3-650.
Of course within 10 seconds of the start of the race, the game is up to the
max of 36 fps on all the cards.
Also there are a few glitches caused by the z-buffer with the D3D patch
(nothing to do with the GeForce2, these same glitches showed up in GPL under
D3D on the V3 and V5).
That's the plain facts, the V5 is a better GPL card. Now some opinion :)
The GeForce 2 is the better card overall in my opinion. It's extremely
compatible, has a more complete D3D feature set (AGP texturing, DotProduct3
texture blending, Hardware T&L etc), and is faster overall. The games I
used to run in Glide (UT, GP500, GPL) now run completely fine in D3D. UT at
1024*768 averaging 50 fps can't be bad.
The plus points for the V5 would be the superior FSAA. Since I wasn't
overly impressed with FSAA on either card, the GeForce 2 is the better card,
although not by much, for me.
