You are ABSOLUTELY correct, Barton, there is NO SUCH THING as too
many Abbotts. As a matter of fact, I've got a 4 pack of Abbotts in my 'fridge right
now...in Raleigh, NC! You're welcome to come over and sample (*ONE*) if you
want... ;] (Imported by Kohl Brewing Company, Raleigh, NC... ;p )

Four new add-on tracks for GPL
Andre Warringa announced four new GPL track releases, including a dirt version of Milwaukee and Bull Run converted from NASCAR. Discussion covered the French Pits site, the banking on Bull Run, ymenard's work on its AI with Jon Van Ginneken, and a long tangent about British ales.
mods/tracks/carsGrand Prix Legends
Automated summary.
Bull Run was a Nascar2 Fantasy track, wich was free to download from papy
and other sites (The Pits), and was included in BGN Track Pack for Nascar 2,
also with Red Rock.
Would fe fantastic to have Bull Run for GPL

As for Surfers, there are reasons why David didn't convert it, can't
remember what it was, but I asked him about it after it was mentioned
here on this NG, and all I can say is, there are issues with Surfers, he
didn't just have one too many Abbott's that day and forgot to include
it....:-)

Is this like Suzuka? What ever happened to all these tracks and the French
pits....I'm lost
Just in case you missed it on the GPLEA forum, 4 "new" tracks have
been released:
Milwaukee Dirt Track:
http://www.simcyberworld.com/users/gpl/gpl.shtml
(Turn Milwaukee into a Dirt Track, you need the original Milwaukee
track for this)
This is purely for fun, just like the Pants Ring.
This track makes some great replays though :)
Bristol '70:
http://nosthevamp.tripod.com/start.htm
Bruce Johnson found a way to convert Bristol from Nascar Legends to
GPL, and he also made a nice cover for it.
You need Nascar Legends for this one.
Bristol is hard to drive in GPL, allmost as hard as the Pants Ring,
really steep banking.
Surfers Paradise and Bull Run:
Then 2 other tracks are released, Surfers Paradise, a convertion from
ICR2, and Bull Run, a track for N3 which hasn't been released.
They're for download at the French Pits, but since they are officially
illegal, I won't post the url, consider this purely as info.
Perhaps someone can find an easy way to convert Surfers Paradise in a
legal way to GPL, just like the converter from Noonan converts the
ICR2 tracks in a legal way.
Surfers Paradise is imo not really suited for GPL, but Bull Run is a
fantastic track, which some great banked corners.

Well the track itself works great as far as I have tested it (drove a
lap or 10) but maybe the AI was the problem for this one?

What would be BETTER for GPL is the Flat Bull conversion that was done for
Indycar2. The removal of the 2 huge banked turns makes the Bull into a more
realistic type of track. But it does take away one of my best passing
zones. I have gotten quite good at using the first banked turn to swoop
over and above drivers attempting to hold a tight line through the banking.
After that came a sharp lefthander and my Highside pass put me in perfect
position to steal the apex of that turn....can't do that with the flat
course.

Bull Run may not be a realistic track (hey, it's a fantasy track!) but
the high banked corners do make it a very refreshing and fantastic
track. You say it would be better for gpl if the flat version was
used, but further on in your post you describe how much fun the
current Bull Run is.. let's agree that it would be BEST to have both
versions for GPL :)
By the way, Bruce put up a new track today, Sears 99 converted to GPL.
I just came home, didn't have time to test it yet.

Actually, AFAIK he's right about this one, and seeing the weird behavior
of the AI during a race, I tend to believe him, especially as they're

Hehe I'm going to get you someday Goy! You have to show your arse at the
Albany LAN. You could find a sponsor for your plane ticket <vbg>. Do they
have rebates for Union members? ;-P
Seriously the original Bull Run 2000 AI was done by me, but the biggest load
of work was by Jon Van Ginneken (one of his early work in terms of track
editing). I tried to create fast but also stable laps by the AI, both in
IndyCars and Stockcars. The first use for BR2k was that when you raced it
in Icr2, the limited physics made you snap the car into a spin at those 2
banked corners, so they were flattened. It was after that the track was
adapted for numbers of offline endurance racing, but after checking the
tracks they still use my AI.
Oh and Barton.. shhh next time. "Don't write checks your arse can't cash
in". ;)

LOL, I'd get my ass kicked so badly it wouldn't even be funny to watch
Actually I don't think the AI is all that bad, they use a decent line
through the corners and such, it's just that I think you might have done
a too slow lap and just adjusted it to get the lap times, which shows up
as weird behavior under braking acceleration, and it's especially
noticeable going into the last baked corner were the AI will brake so
early it isn't even funny (if memory serves me right, it's been almost a
year :-) but will just outdrag you coming off the corner as it seems to
compensate for slow corner speeds by going fast on the
straights......which reminds me of a certain young French/Canadian I
know.....:-)
